Re: the specific raiding of the dressing up box involved in In the Flesh. Back in the '70s, I think it would genuinely have been insightful to say "hey maaan, don't the charismatic rock stars of today recall a certain other kind of charismatic leader the world heard from not so long ago?"

This may have outlived its time - especially when today's Men of Destiny no longer dress up in silly costumes but are all nicely groomed televisual performers.

OK. Well, I have now had occasion to review some of Mr Waters' Berlin performance:

And I have to admit I may have been overhasty in my initial reaction. There is still the problem of the village idiot wing of the pro-Palestinian movement being, well, idiots.

(but don't tell Mrs Idris I said that).

What a glorious, insightful review it was. To think, I have waited years for it as well.

There's a lot of bullshit to cut through about him and there's a censorship issue at play, but he's so annoying that I'm actually in favour of cancelling him.

Added advantage - if you cut out all the Roger Waters songs from the Pink Floyd discography, they're actually a pretty decent band.

ill summarise what he says in the video:

The Wall is an antifascist/antiauthoritarian piece of work he has been performing much the same way for 40 years straight

The names of the dead flashed up include someone from every city/country he is touring in killed by oppressive state forces. When in the US he includes someone from that particular state

The star of david on the pig thing was one of numerous religious symbols all on the same pig - religious and also political - hammer and sickle was on there - he decided to remove the star of david after complaints but other religious symbols, the christian cross, the islamic crescent etc remain

The german courts found nothing objectionable

Israel is an apartheid state and it is supporters of the apartheid state that are behind the move to get him cancelled

He will never stop defending the rights of Palestinians, a cause he took up after visiting Palestine in 2009

i think thats basically it

Followed by a retraction:

I have to say, I've met her briefly and know people who know her, and it's all positive. I get the impression, though, that she likes to get to the point and doesn't mess around.
Quite a self-satirising apology, though.

Stereolab are one of my favourite bands and there's nothing wrong with a bit of pretentiousness. But if you're apologising for having liked Jordan Peterson, wording the apology like you're a professor of cultural studies who's been momentarily embarrassed is not really ideal.

Last time I saw Floyd I probably took a few spliffs in and nothing else was needed. Maybe cost around £30 a ticket as well
I saw them post Waters some time in the nineties. Division Bell tour at Earls Court. Some folk were decrying them as old men topping up their pensions then. 30 years ago! Ageism in action.

Is he anti-capitalist though? He hates WW2 and how the post war consensus has been eroded in the years since. But he isn’t really giving his money away (geddit?) or arguing against how well he’s doing.
he says socialism is great, so at least kinda, in theory.
