Last time I saw Floyd I probably took a few spliffs in and nothing else was needed. Maybe cost around £30 a ticket as well
I saw them at Wembley in the 80s - brilliant gig but still in the age when no one bothered searching you for stuff at gigs . I’d scored several tabs of acid and an ounce of hash earlier in the day for our coach party. A splendid time was had by all and then some 😎 (Ticket was £15)

They’re built for hallucinogenics.

Really don’t get what people hear in Pink Floyd. It’s just turgid pompous adolescent nonsense to me.
I grew up with them so maybe that’s a big part of it. They’re a band that went through several distinct phases and it’s a bit like Beatles fans who are split between the “She Loves You” era and the experimental years. I love experimental music and where that goes. After DSOTM they got a bit predictable (with flashes of genius) but my favourite era is the space between Syd Barrett leaving and superstardom where they did all manner of freaky experimental stuff. Personal taste though 🙂
I completely understand why people don’t get it though - in much the same way I don’t get much dance music. Different drugs and social scenes will play a part here.

I'll say it again. The first album with Syd Barrett at the helm is pure class. A majestic gem, totally unique and considered by some to be the only Pink Floyd album worth listening to.
Piper is good but I think people get a bit fixated on the “tragic acid casualty” part and ignore its weak parts (E.g. “The Gnome” is twee bollocks). There’s lots to enjoy afterwards especially Rick Wright’s contributions which tend to get a bit overlooked (E.g. “Paintbox”, “Summer 68”, etc.) or their film soundtracks (“More”, “Zabriskie Point”, “La Vallee”)

Imagine having the moral compass that made it a good idea to give money to someone that gave a speech to the UN after being invited by Russia.
