Robots from Boston Dynamics and more

It’s gone a long way in only a few years since big dog or what have you was chucking brieze blocks about.

Clever stuff, I've not read this blog. But it says near the start it took months to generate this sequence

It will be interesting to see if they can ever make Atlas a generalist, give Atlas random terrain to cross and the robot just copes, then Atlas might be useful. At the moment it appears to be more about using Atlas to raise the profile for boston dynamics, so they can sell robots like pick, spot and strech.

Some behind scenes vid..

Interesting that they’ve built them with the knees that way round.

Not sure whether it’s a matter of being good for procuring funding, or whether there are longer term aims around making them fit well into military infrastructure designed for humans.

The original pitch (ie thinking up a possible use for a humanoid robot so they could get DARPA funding) was that you could test hazmat suits or body armor through the full range of human motion without having a fragile human inside. So the joints are (were? it's obviously come a long way since the start of this thread) where a human has them.

Good job teuchter wasn't involved or 50% of them wouldn't have elbows...

I vaguely recall that from an engineering perspective, human-style knees are a bad design. Not bad enough to affect our survival, but still bad enough to give us trouble, especially later in life.

That's pretty cool, though the 'imitation' thing in the middle video is a bit disturbing. Only need one robot to go rogue and attack humans and the rest of them would follow suit.
