Robin Hood's tree now a stump (iconic tree at Hadrian's Wall)

Christ. Last autumn, or maybe the year before, was a 'mast' year for sycamores and there were seedlings absolutely everywhere the following spring. It's just about the easiest tree to grow. There's nothing actually special about the DNA of this particular sycamore, is there? I am all in favour of tree planting and valuing trees in general but I think the effort gone into 'Trees of Hope' could have been directed more usefully, maybe in trying to change the law about how mature trees are protected or something.

Think it is more a case of symbolism in this case ...

and individual trees can be protected by preservation orders and other measures.
