I think it was in the press release his own publicist put out (Davidbowie.com)
If it was... ok.... it was in spite of Vine. Why did they use him? He seemed to have no particular interest in it and kept saying odd things.
Saw the Martian the other day this song brought back a lot of memories of traveling to see the Grandparents and aunts and uncles. Bowie was the sound track of my childhood, 1976ish to 1985ish. Such sad news.
In May 1979, David Bowie did a two hour radio show called Star Special in which he played some of his favourite records.
The show introduced me to lots of artists to whom I have been listening ever since, such as Iggy Pop, Talking Heads, The Doors, The Velvet

I sort of regret posting this. Not coz what I said, if anything a topic I'm up for quite a deep conversation on, but I've in terms of stuff to do, I've got the week from hell, on top of trying to help my brother and his wife who ARE having the week from hell.
Will be a manana manana response
Chris Hadfield covered it from the ISS. What you gonna go?Another example of Hollywood being crass and stupid - "It's really famous, and mentions stars, so it fits, right?' No, not really.
Chris Hadfield did "space oddity".Chris Hadfield coveted it from the ISS. What you gonna go?
I stand correctedChris Hadfield did "space oddity".
This is brilliant - a 17 year old Bowie whining about being taunted for having long hair:
i think bommi baumann, in 'terror or love', recalls how as a teenager in the 60s he had long hair and was picked on then went to jail and, coming out with short hair, was picked on by all the long-hairs.altho he is being incredibly fey about it, longhairs were regularly having seven bells of shit kicked out of them, for having long hair. Not unlike goths today, those freaks who looked a bit different were severely picked upon, and had frequently had to deal with a lot more than just 'taunting.'
probably not as badly as they would have done if they knew he was a Stasi narki think bommi baumann, in 'terror or love', recalls how as a teenager in the 60s he had long hair and was picked on then went to jail and, coming out with short hair, was picked on by all the long-hairs.
I don't think kids are aware of Bowie much, judging from a comment at work this morning: 'Sir, did you know that a pop star has died?'
I know what you mean, he is a legend after all. There's quite a few fans here in the office.
I think a lot of people grew up with Bowie... My dad for one is a huge fan.
The great man himself says it does rhyme. That doesn't make sense unless you pronounce Bowie wrong.
(oh shit, how many pages can we get out of how to say his name?)
yeah me too. one of the 1st puzzled comments I made was 'bowie cant die. he's fecken BOWIE!'I never realised that David Bowie was actually mortal until today. RIP.
that is not dead which can eternal lieyeah me too. one of the 1st puzzled comments I made was 'bowie cant die. he's fecken BOWIE!'
He is also the funder and producer of this...
When no other bugger would touch him.....
?One thing i wanted to mention yesterday, but it got lost, is about that short lived daft 'fascist flirtation' - drugs doesn't cover it or justify it, but using drugs as a way to deal with the onfoing mental disintergration of his nazi brother who he hero worshiped and paired with undisciplined druged upreading
Should be on the misquote thread.
even in the late 70s/ early 80s long hair was seen as aberrant on a boy. My hair was only1966 Beatles length as a kid but even so I was called a girl a lot by members of older generations - who presumably lived through the long era of long hair in late 60s/ early 70s. Mind you, it didn't really bother me to be called a girl, but I had to pretend it did.altho he is being incredibly fey about it, longhairs were regularly having seven bells of shit kicked out of them, for having long hair. That bit was from an earlier post i decided not to send but forgot drafts are saved now.
I was a teenager in the sixties with long hair (it's nearly gone now) and was saving to go to Europe, one of the cheapest ways was via Singapore, guess what no foreigners with long hair even in transit (males that is).even in the late 70s/ early 80s long hair was seen as aberrant on a boy.
