Rating the watchability of sports that I catch a few minutes of randomly

Anyone seen the handball yet? Competition's only just started but I might give it a go. In a "yeah, I reckon I could/could have done that" type way.

I saw a bit last night. Not that interesting.

Actually, I'm supposed to be rating these.

Triathlon = 10/10. Never seen it before but I've never seen anything I'd rather not do on a hot Sunday arvo in the far east. Extra points for the tubby guy in nappies ralphing all over the track once he'd won. So. 10.5/10
Skateboarding = 1. And that's just because of grown men throwing words around like 'triple squidgie' as a few emo kids take the piss in a carpark
Rugby sevens = 0. Pointless. That's all.
Badminton = 10/10. Genuinely amazed at how the fuck they see the cock so fast and smash it

All in all, it's an excellent way to spend a largely unemployed few weeks.

Yeh I agree. I tuned in about half way through and I don't think saw a single passing manoeuvre. Does it all happen at the start?

Skateboarding. Awful. No idea why 13yos rolling around is an Olympic 'sport' and yet cricket, arguably the second most popular sport in the world isn't in there. Though the commentary was almost worth it.

The best I've seen so far - the badminton. Insane skill levels/reactions.

The cricketers would end up overlapping with the paralympics, so not really viable.

I enjoyed the skateboarding, one of those sports where even a very rudimentary knowledge makes it quite impressive. GB's top hope in women's park is even younger incidentally.

10/10 cricket has been mooted. That would fit in fine.

Oh, is 10/10 a format? I know nothing about cricket? :D

I did play for a while, but not for me.

Yeh. It's even shorter than 'the Hundred'. Lasts about as long as football game. If sword fighting and surfing are in there I see no reason why cricket shouldn't be. India alone would massively boost the games.

I liked the mixed pairs archery I saw yesterday. 8/10

One of the things you really can't appreciate on the TV is just how far they're shooting... At 70m the entire target is roughly the same as looking at your index fingernail at arms length. The gold is around 2mm of that, the 10 is 1mm.

The skateboarding commentary was shit. Everything everyone did was the best thing anyone's ever done, apparently.

Canoe slalom. 2/10 - wouldn't it make more sense if they went downstream all the time, instead of this convoluted up and down that no one does in an actual canoe unless participating in some sort of contrived sport?

They should make the target smaller then, I was getting bored of all the 9s.

Anyway they have extra-special bows with knobs on to make it easier.

A martial art. 2/10
Mens synchronised diving. My appraisal of the dives rarely matched the commentator's. Wee tom Daley won for GB thoough so 3.2/3.7

The diving commentary is absurd. Ooh, he splashed a bit when he hit the water after falling 40 feet, he'll lose points for that. What? He's losing points for the laws of fucking physics?

Let's see them hit it with a normal bow and then I'll be impressed.

The weightlifting is terrifying. Although I do get to snigger at the women's snatch followed by the clean and jerk. 6/10.

Dressage 10/10. I know it's serious business for those involved for the casual viewer... but.. the horrified gasps from the commentators as Pumpkin fucked up her little diagonal dance across the sand and her hooves got a bit stuck, well. top stuff.

Nice to know that when a diver manages to enter the pool without splashing they're actually defying the laws of physics.

IMO triathlon is exciting to watch and to do. Outside of the Olympics it's also age banded. You could be 100, come dead last overall, but win your age group. I loved the training rather than the racing itself. I'd recommend it to anyone. You don't need to be especially good at any one discipline to be able to be competitive.

Yeah, been thinking about it as 2-3 year goal. Other than something like a marathon, there are few more accessible individual sports.

Personally gymnastics 🤸‍♂️ and athletics have always been favourites. I watched skateboarding and it was ok. Nice to see 13 year old Brazilian girl get silver but it was very samey. Most exciting thing was when they fell over...

It's a lot like F1 in that regard, boring as fuck with a chance of a good crash.

Enter the pool. That's what they say. Ooh, that was a very good entry into the water. As if a less talented diver would have failed to 'enter' the water after falling towards it from a great height. They'll be giving out medals for falling off a fucking log next

Not much can beat Felix Baumgartner's world record fall. 4 minutes 20 seconds of falling. The absolute fucking epitome of skill. I can't wait for his Guinness record attempt at drowning.

C'mon everybody, Charlotte Dujardin is up any minute now in the dressage. Let's hope she doesn't get disqualified like she did in the Euros for failing the "can your horse stand on 4 legs, y'know like a proper horse" category.

Dressage gets a 1/10 solely for the remote but still non-zero possibility of seeing one of the horses flip out and trample their rider into the dirt.

Trampolining - 5/10, no idea about the scoring for the moves, but it looks scary given the width of the trampoline and how high they get.

Eventing - 1/10 I thought it would have jumps and stuff but it's riding horses around an empty square without the silly bits that are a feature of dressage. And they somehow get a score

Eventing is three days, three events. First day is dressage - second is cross country - third is show jumping.

You only saw the dressage i think.
