pubs that rock

Books, not bombs
Are there any decent pubs that rock (I am am basing this on my experience of War Pigs in Copenhagen).
I went to The Intrepid Fox when it was in Soho and seem to remember it was playing MOR type music or Rock N Roll. I gather it's now moved all the way up to Archway but think it may have closed again.
Then there is CroBar THE CROBAR It's central and Ive no idea what its like; any info appreciated.
The only other place I knew was the Green Dragon in Croydon that played half decent music but its a long way out and was always heaving Green Dragon | Craft Beer & Ales Pub in Croydon

Anyone know of any others?

I've been to Crobar. I wasn't that impressed. Just a small bar off Charring Cross rd with a bunch of old metalers sitting around listening to Sabbath and the like. I was hoping for something a bit more lively with some proper thrash metal and an air of danger and chaos tbh.

Aces and Eights in Tufnel Park isn't bad and stays open til 2:30am on Fri/Sat.

Our black heart in Camden?

I remember the music selection being pretty good, I think I saw a Don Caballero track on the jukebox which makes it magical for me, although that was about 6 years ago.

.
Fucking expensive too.

Haven't been for years, but Garlic & Shots used to be pretty lively in a metaaaaaaaaaal way.

Big Red is probably the best of the bunch that's around these days but for some reason I just don't like it. Does food as well though which everyone seems to love.

There's the Ship in Croydon, depending on who is DJing that's normally a decent night.

Garlics is fine but its bloody pricey. And practically pitch black.

The Crobar is the pub of choice for US singers who want to go for a beer and not be recognised.

I've bumped into both Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga in there (and beaten up by her bouncers when I tried to squeeze past her in the ridiculously narrow bar to go to the toilet.)

And they only sell Guiness in cans

I was going to say Slim Jims on Upper Street...its a bit more of an 80s hair rock US nostalgia Jack Daniels advert vibe in there tbh, but still
Sad to hear about Intrepid Fox
New Cross Inn is most often in a punk rock mode of some description depending who's on the bill and Birds Nest in Deptford is kind of there in retired spirit and they do have rock bands on the bill fairly regularly

Sad to say it's the end for the Crobar:
Dear All,
It is with more sadness and anger than I have the words to express that I have to announce that The Crobar will be unable to re-open at it’s current location.
If the insurance companies had paid out, we could have paid the rent and the staffs wages and survived.
If the landlords had given us a rent discount or holiday, we could have survived.
Sadly, our idiot government did not make either of them do what’s right, and now the bar and music industries are in tatters.
Years and years of hard work by pub, bar and venue owners across the country have been destroyed in the blink of an eye, and all because of the greed of a few ‘land barons’
Why did our government let this happen?
Oh, that’s right, they are the land barons!
On the up side, my 7 year old daughter pointed out to me that all I have to do is open a new Crobar, so that’s what I’m going to do.
I aim to open a new Crobar with both a bar and a live music venue.
It will require crowd funding, and I suspect it will be a year or so before opening will be viable, but fuck the greedy insurance companies, fuck the greedy short sighted landlords and fuck our brainless government…….we will be back!
Long live Rock n’ Roll
🤘

That's such a shame. I spent most of my first year in London in that place and it's where a lot of my friendships were forged.

I moved out of Brixton a couple of years back. And came across this place just down the road...

Young bands.. good vibes. Crazy old landlady

I know that place, there used to be a room at the back with an amazing dance floor with coloured lights! It was hired by a friend with a rig for a Techno party back in the 00s, there was some strange arrangement where you had to buy a ticket for a drink which you went round the the bar in the pub to redeem :D
