Post random pics of your CD/vinyl/cassette collection

On a side note - I find northern Yemeni (Sana'a and surrounding areas) interesting because unlike Adeni music it had very little influence from the outside world. Not only is the north geographically very cut off from the outside world, but Norther tribes are also very proud of their traditions and show little interest in spreading and mixing.
Northern music is a very pure form of trad Arabic music.

Frank Kofksy sounds an interesting guy
just found this, might be of interest:

The Jazz musician, John Coltrane, discusses his art, the meaning of music in human experience, and his particular spiritual approach. This rare interview with Frank Kofsky was done in November, 1966, less than a year before his death.

I know a bit about Somali music as well. I can share another time.
without getting into it too deeply and derailing this thread even further I'd like to quickly mention the Somali singer / songwriter Xudeidi:

Born in Berbera / Somalia he spent most of his childhood and youth in Hudeida and Aden in Yemen. That's where he learned Oud before moving back to Somalia. He was highly influential in modernising trad Somali music and mixing Yemeni and East African styles.
His nickname 'Xudeidi' simply means 'From Hodeida', a little tribute to the time he spent in Western Yemen.
He moved to Shepherd's Bush in the 7ts and spent the rest of his life there. I met him in 2008 (or thereabouts). He was a highly skilled musician, a gentle and patient teacher, never tiring of talking about culture and music.

Largely ignored by the West but admired by East Africans and Yemenis he died in April 2020 of COVID. RIP

That Tom Moulton compilation goes for £50+ these days. Someone broke into our car a while back and left that in place, but stole a USB charging cable 🤷‍♂️
Wonder if any car thieves check the value of CDs/cassettes on the Discogs app on their phones whilst doing their deed?

Interesting thread even though I have no serious interest in music (I only own a radio!). Are you white British ska invita ? How did your interest in music from that bit of the world start?

When my car got broken into a couple of years ago, the only thing they took was an incomplete cassette box set of BBC radio adaptation of The Lord of The Rings. So I'm guessing they just grab whatever is quickly accessible and do one on the whole

littleseb I really like your music posts / videos on this thread. Always liked that music.
Have you ever heard of Sean Nos singing? It's a very old Irish style. No accompaniment. But it always reminds me of eastern, middle eastern styles too.
