Portugal v Czech

So predictions, anyone? Who will you support, will you watch it? Usual stuff.

I will, as you might expect, be supporting Portugal. I expect a win, and hope Ronaldo is on form. Even though he seems not to have been for quite a while while playing for Portugal anyway.

As long as we get one more goal than they do I don't care what the result is. Winning is all that matters.

What no poll?

Portugal to win, Ronaldo looks like he's found form plus I don't think this is a great Czech side.

Portugal 2-0.

I'll watch it, but I think I'll be supporting the Czechs. Sorry. I like a man in a hairband and I can't stand "CR7".

Let's hope there's no Sporting Lisbon fans there to make monkey noises at Selassie or otherwise another £16.5K fine might get handed out.

Like to see Czech win but i doubt it. The upside of this is that Portugal will get spanked in the semi or maybe even the final and we'll see Winkaldo cry again.

Hmm. CR is an amazing player when he wants to be. Let's hope he is on form tomorrow. Spanked in the next round, well it will be either France, in which case we might win, or Spain which will be much more difficult. I want to see us against Spain, but I don't see us winning that.

You said that in the OP. You omitted that he is also a cunt and everyone else outside of Portugal hopes he falls on his arse (aside from diving) and cries (again)

Tonight's the night! Let's hope he is on form. And I doubt that everyone outside of Portugal wants him to fail. In fact I think most people want to see him play at his best.

Everyone?

I just put £2 on the Czechs to win the tournament at 55-1, on the grounds that the odds will drop massively if they make the semis and it's not that unlikely. So go Czechs.

I think a fair few Portuguese also despise him based on the reaction he gets when I watch the footy in the stockwell portuguese bars. He's a fucking brilliant player though, indisputably.

That's the problem with him, he is great when he is on form, but as a person seems to be less than admirable. and his recent record with the national team is not great either.

Strange things is that as a Man U fan I used to detest him when he was at the club (there was a certain allegation which coloured my view of him, no doubt unfairly as the CPS didn't pursue it. Yes, I know, major derail..). Now he's gone I can enjoy watching his ability and just get amused by the pouting and preening.

I saw him a couple of time at old trafford. I've honestly never seen a better player live... but.. i also support united and this incident alone makes me hate the cunt

First of all a little story to tell you what kind of man we are talking about. It is January 9, 2008, and in an upstairs room at Manchester United's training ground five elderly men in smart blazers are struggling with their emotions in front of a hushed audience. It is the club's media day building up to the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster and Sir Bobby Charlton's polite smile does not hide the fact he is trembling as he takes his seat. Bill Foulkes is straight-backed and dignified but only a couple of questions have been asked before the tears appear in his eyes and he reaches for a glass of water.

In an adjacent room Wayne Rooney has agreed to offer a modern-day perspective of that seminal day when 23 people, including eight members of Sir Matt Busby's team, were killed in the wreckage of the burnt-out BEA Elizabethan. It is not his specialist subject but he handles the occasion with dignity and more eloquence than some people might imagine. But then Cristiano Ronaldo comes through the double doors and the mood is broken.

He is wearing a white suit jacket and ripped jeans, looking every bit the boy-band hunk, but it is very obvious he is in a bad mood. He begins by berating Karen Shotbolt, the club's press officer, because he is waiting for Rooney and the event has over-run. He is banging his watch with his hand, flapping his arms and gesturing in the way that Portuguese footballers usually reserve for fussy referees and, at first, he is so animated it appears as if it might be a wind-up.

When he flounces back through the doors, cursing loudly, it is very obvious he is being deadly serious. Rooney is professional enough to carry on with his tribute but the attention is no longer exclusively on him. Thirty seconds later Ronaldo appears again, first rapping his forefinger against the glass in the door, then opening it by a fraction and starting to whistle at Rooney in the way that a farmer beckons his sheepdog.

I haven't heard that story before, and am appalled by it. I cannot imagine anybody finding that behaviour acceptable. Utterly despicable behaviour. It certainly colours my opinion of him, and improves my opinion of Rooney.

Much as I don't want us to lose, I hope CR gets a bit of a kicking in this game.

What an unpleasant person. Head says Portugal will win, heart says a Czech win, and a spoilt brat bawling.
