Pizza

See my last pizza post. I have been there and tried pizza with chips on only last week.
I will try almost anything once, but never again for pizza and chips. Even though it was on a thin base it was far too much.

A full pizza?

I would only ever have a portion of pizza with chips.

They did them 25yrs ago when we lived there. Pizza with a portion of chips and cut up hot dog sausages chucked on top. My wife was not impressed when she accidently ordered it.

I've never not shared a whole pizza.
I've never failed to eat a whole pizza.
I have mentioned once or twice that I once had two entire whole pizzas at one sitting, which was a sort of challenge.
It was in Haywards Heath, the Safari (?). I had a main course with the usual type stuff on it. This was followed by a dessert
pizza which was a pizza base covered in nutella.
The main course pizzas were good, the service brilliant and the wine was perfect.
I did not see any of it again.

Here we go
Wondering what danny la rouge will make of this. Yesterday we went to Safari's in Haywards Heath. A small independent with a wood fired oven. The staff were great, it had a wood fired pizza oven and sold my favourite wine by the glass, Bolney Bacchus. Top marks.
This was chorizo with goats cheese and spicey honey.

This was my desert, cholocale calzone. It was the pizza version of a proffitero roll.View attachment 428158

Growing up in Ireland we didn't have fast food.. the first time I ever had pizza was on a visit to London to stay with cousins. I was 11.we went to Pizza Hut near Tower Bridge.
Even then I knew by looking around me at other diners, that there was no way I could eat a full pizza. They seemed huge to me. I enjoyed half a Pizza.

I grew up on cabbage and bacon, beef stew, chicken veg and potatoes. Until mum discovered curry. Then we had that in our weekly routine dinners. And the Spag Bol happened. Lasagne. Other dinners.
When we came back from London mam decided to make her own pizzas. They were OK.. but the base was never right.

I put a little bit of BBQ sauce into the pizza sauce.

Didn't tell anybody and literally every person said "this sauce is really nice, what have you done to it?".

Little bit sounds OK, it's probably just like adding a bit of Worcestershire sauce to something tomato based to add depth and umami.

When it's all BBQ sauce (especially the sort of cheap artificial tasting stuff you get on some cheap pizzas), yuk.

I don't... Hate it, but it's definitely only something for a particular set of toppings on a particular sort of pizza. Like I thought it was okay from Pizza Gogo topped with frankfurters and chillies. It wouldn't occur to me to put it on a homemade pizza. Though there's that little malicious bit of my nature that just wants to find the most traditional pizzeria in all of Napoli and ask for BBQ sauce, frankfurters and pineapple to watch their heads explode in rage.
