Pig's in Blankets / Sausages Wrapped in Bacon

I didn’t realise PIB’s were such serious business, what with reading all these practice runs

I always do chipolatas (full length ones) wrapped in Parma ham or similar. The thin ham goes really crispy. Also glaze - have done a simple maple syrup/mustard combo the last few years and probably will again tomorrow.

This thread is slightly bewildering. I always thought the best ones are just made with decent chipolatas and streaky bacon. I'd never entertained the idea of glazes and whatnot. I'm not sure I'm entirely convinced. But it's probably worth an experiment.

I fucking love PiBs and don't think they should be an Xmas only meal. In fact if I ever do roast chicken for more then just the two of us, I use it as an opportunity to make them.

A local chipper was doing them battered and deep fried, with chips, as a supper this year - probably to compete with their nearest competitor who is famous for another fried delicacy of sorts. A couple of Fridays back, they were giving them out free - for a charity donation! I will try to sample some before the festive season is over.

IIRC, PIBs were actually introduced as an austerity meal, due to post-WW2 meat shortages and should be served as the main meat, not an accompaniment.

I expect to be ostracised.

We just had chicken-meat sausages wrapped in panceta: thinly sliced belly pork so like fresh uncured unsmoked streaky bacon.

The leanness of the sausages was made up for by the fattiness of the belly pork so not bad, but lacking baconness.

I had such a nightmare carving the turkey (don'y try and do it on the hob) that I forgot there was stuffing inside.

The lovingly marinated suasages in bacon were ok. Ms mx was polite, but they weren't special. I think it was the chippolatas that let me down. :(

Mrs SI did as much again as we had for dinner for me alone.
We had actual stuffing, as in stuffing stuffed up the massive turkey, and then two lots of stuffing that had to be cooked seperatly. So lots of stuffing. Having said that, the chestnut stuffing wasn't very nice, the sage and onion classic was good though

Don't get me wrong, I love pigs in blankets, but this year they were a touch overdone and two were unusable so there are none to eat cold later.
