Pig's in Blankets / Sausages Wrapped in Bacon

I bought these by accident. 🤢 My Xmas is RUINED!!

I am dubious - a blended cheese sausage, whatever the fuck that is, might actually be delicious - albeit not a traditional PiB offering.

I tend to go a bit more traditional, but let us know what they are like - it might be a nice surprise (good luck though). 🤢

I have no intention of trying them. Thankfully I also have some normal ones. I’ll palm these off on other people.

The M&S I went to yesterday was completely sold out of PIBs - I was in another a couple of days before and there were mountains of packets of the things!

The only ones left in a fairly small quantity were Chorizo PIBs but Chorizo makes me hurl!

So I bought some Battered "salt and vinegar" with curry sauce chipolatas and some mini spring rolls instead. That will have to do - I wasn't going to go hunting for them anywhere else, esp when I saw the queue to get into the other supermarket out there!

This concept of buying ready-blanketed pigs confuseth me. Hasth ye not chipolatas, streaky bacon and opposable thumbs?

We experimented with a couple of PiBs today which had apple sauce spread on one side of the bacon prior to wrapping (we've done ones with mustard before) which went down well enough that we're replenishing our chipolata and streaky bacon silos prior to new year so that we can do a repeat experiment under stricter laboratory conditions.

Only the opposable thumbs and enough other stuff to cook that I just wanted something of little effort that would fit a corner of the mini oven along with the roast tatties/roast veg and to have some left over for some quick to prepare snack plates for when people look-in over the next few days.

The battered salt & vinegar chipolatas worked well enough though, esp with my spicy red wine/turkey gravy, which this year I have to admit was a tour-de-force this year and I have a jug of that in the fridge now to see me till Hogmanay. :)

The wee spring rolls were less successful though. but the Ravens had a good feed on them this morning and I have some left over for snacks, where they may work better with a different sauce/dip.

I didnt get round to doing mine on xmas day as oven was too full with my massssive turkey and was distracted by everything else. Lesson learnt.. always prep them a bit in advance!

Im gonna make mine tomorrow to have with the leftovers. Ive now frozed the chipolatas so will be venison sausages with top quality unsmoked streaky bacon. Ohhh yeahhh. ;)

I had to look that up, they do one in pastry an all!! Pork sausage meat wrapped in bacon wrapped in pastry.

I quite fancy one tbh.

I missed the pastry option! I'd head up there to see if any are left but supermarkets and yellow label corner atm will be like a scrum. I'd end up battering someone with a dented tin of beans.

I'm going to keep a look out for either next year - not for Xmas day as I'm the only one who eats meat, but like you've done to go in the freezer til afterwards - not sure I could do a whole one in one go, but am imagining how good any leftovers could potentially be sliced up in sarnies with a bit of mayonnaise.

Please report back on what it is like!

I was intending to share leftovers with the foxes here but your idea of sandwiches is far more sensible. :D

Aye, I reckon it would go well in a sarnie with a range of condiments (not necessarily all at once) - mayo, mustard, cranberry sauce, chutney, sweet pickle - a couple of sarnies each with different condiments I reckon. Wish I'd seen one of these when I was in Asda on Thursday! Mind you I was on the verge of losing my mind in there, it was mayhem.

I've some chutneys and picalillis already. Will grab some other bits and then sorted for leftovers.

I'll send foxes your way, they'll be pissed off. :D
