Disposable vapes are littering our communities, leaking chemicals into the environment and endangering local wildlife.

Two disposable vapes are thrown away every second in the UK – that’s 1.3 million a week!

Over 40 countries have already banned vapes in some way. Three quarters of Brits think they should be banned.

But why are we calling for a ban? For one thing, it doesn’t make sense to keep flooding the market with disposable vapes when we already have reusable alternatives. Then there’s handling the waste: vapes are electronic devices, so they can’t be recycled with normal household waste and have even caused fires in bin lorries and at waste management centres. [2] What other piece of tech is designed to be thrown away so quickly?



We know that recycling as a solution doesn’t work when we’re throwing away so much. Vapes are really difficult and expensive to recycle, and disposable vape sales keep increasing, so we would never be able to keep up with mammoth amounts of waste. [3] What we really need is a shift away from this single-use culture towards one of reuse.



Here’s the good news: the pressure to ban disposable vapes is mounting. Over 40 countries have already banned vapes in some way. Here in the UK, local councils have called for a ban, and Scotland is making progress on the issue. [

When I vaped, I used one that you could refill with juice and recharge the batteries, these bloody disposable vapes should have been banned as soon as they started being sold.

Funny enough I've just finished watching the Panorama programme on the increasing problem of teenagers taking up vaping and how the industry targets them, it makes my blood boil, well worth a watch.

Signed. These things are getting everywhere. They were banned at Reading/Leeds last weekend but it didn't make a difference. Thousands of the things everywhere.

I was under the impression batteries should not go to landfill? All other batteries can be bagged and placed on top of your red bin in Reading. Yet it's perfectly fine to chuck these things anywhere.

I'm also a vaper, if it's important like.

Being as I watch out for rubber bands, which I'm told birds can mistake for worms, I think I'd have seen a few disposables if they're such a nuisance.

I've bought the odd one in an "emergency" but feel really guilty when I do, the idea of throwing a lithium battery away after one use is pretty bad.

I'm not even sure if you recycle them does that much to offset it. Recycling batteries lithium batteries should be for ones that have had multiple charge cycles.
