Pancake Day 2017 - 28 February

Maggot

The Cake of Liberty
I thought I had missed Pancake Day, a colleague told me it had already been and gone. So I was pleasantly surprised to find he had got it wrong and it's next Tuesday.

I am thinking of doing savoury stuffed pancakes with cheese sauce, followed by some sweet ones.

How are you having yours?

I'll be spitting in the face of Lent with some vegan ones, as usual. Lemon and sugar, flambéed in rum.

Savoury ones with minced beef and then baked with a cheese sauce on top.

Then sweet with lemon and sugar, Nutella and banana and maple syrup.

It's one of my favourite days of the year.

Firstly pancake day is a load of bollocks. You can have pancakes any day of the year. The posh stuff everyone is talking about here is not for pancake day. Pancake day is for lemon juice and soft brown sugar only.

I have no plans to fast on Wednesday, nor give up anything for lent, so not making a special day of fattening up on delicious stodge and sugar tomorrow.

I don't like pancakes but will be making them with butter, icing sugar and lemon for my husband and Nutella, honey and lemon and sugar for my kids (yeah, probably all at once).

Irony bolded.

I think you can enjoy them any time (same as champagne) and don't need a 'reason' to celebrate. But just for the hell of it too, why not?

I wouldnt really eat pancakes for anything other than breakfast, but if I had to choose, it would be stack of sweet ones with lemon, butter and maple syrup, lemon and ricotta (probably with butter, lemon curd, lemon zest and ricotta, perhaps some sprigs of mint too), and savoury with butter, ham and cheese. I make pancakes occasionally and yes, they are ace. Best place for pancakes and crepes in Dublin is a new spot called Lemon.
