Osama bin Laden killed by US forces in Pakistan

Conspiraloon, Gerry?

If this is true, this be'll given as proof that the USA have defiled an Islamic tradition by not letting his "family" etc bury him. Well played America - any more petrol you want to add to the fire?

I think your analysis is wrong and depends on the idea of there being a significant global groundswell of support for this freak beyond the already committed. There isn't. His actions were precisely because there isn't, they were and are a symbol of isolation and defeat.

Strategically this is irrelevent. Al Qaeda have long ceased to be an organisational threat. They are an ideological inspiration. His death will make no difference to that ideological and inspiarational threat. Bin Laden has been a ghost haunting the USA for a long time. A new chapter has started. One that may see Pakistan further alienated from the USA. The drone attacks on Pakistan are continuing. Expect mass demonstrations in Pakistan. Expect Al Qaeda to morph into a long term ideological inspiration to many more oppressed and and embittered Muslims across the globe.

glad the fuck is dead.
all this talk of retaliation is moot the sort of people who would bomb the olympics or drive a plane into a building would do it anyway.

Or will it end up like dissident republicanism in Ireland? Capable of attracting a hard core of fighters, and capable of mounting the odd attack, but not able to affect the broad direction of politics.

The big difference, as I understand it, is that Al-Qaeda wasn't a tightly knit organisation with an 'army council' or equivalent that could order its people to stand down etc. Expect to see a lot of individual groups calling themselves Al-Qaeda.

(which, to get conspiraloon again for a minute, would be ideal for anyone seeking a 'strategy of tension' option. . .)

There is no Al Qaeda. There hasn't been for a long time. As an organisation it committed suicide on 9/11 (the ultimate suicide attack) It's threat is ideological and inspirational. His death is important symbolically yes but strategically not really. The US has its "victory" those inspired by Al Qaeda have a "martyr".

probably but then again an islamic death cult would be kind of hard to stand down .
its not like AL-Qaeda had a political wing or demands anyone could meet a islamic Claiphate ok will tuesday do?

I think there would be a greater percentage of muslim moderates who are glad to see the end of that terrorist motherfucker. As well as the majority of the Pakistani Government.Who will say it?Probably no-one who values their life.
I am glad he's been topped, couldn't happen to a more deserving cunt.He was a dead man walking after 9/11.Fuck him

Absolutely. The death cult exists in the hearts and minds of those inspired by it. The degree to which this continues will be based on many other factors beyond his physical existance. Organizationally the fact that the US managed to penetrate his security is an indication of how much the existing organisation has been compromised. Time will tell whether what you accurately call a "death cult" continues to inspire. All indications, especially with recent events in the Arab world, are that the ideology associated with Bin Laden is in terminal decline. Mass democratic revolutionary action is the spirit of the age in the Arab world not nihilistic anti modernism of Bin Laden.
