Osama bin Laden killed by US forces in Pakistan

Brennan looks incredibly uncomfortable. His body language is all over the place. He must be very well trained for this stuff, but he's absolutely in bits, all over the fucking shop. Doesn't bode well...

Watching the crap coming out of the"Terror adviser from the White House" on the BBC, he skims the true story about dumping the body into the sea... be honest you don't want a shrine build in his honour so you dumped him into the sea... (Sorry buried) within 24 hours.. and "allegedly" spoke to people who "know about stuff" that it was o.k. to dump him into the sea... :D

its because he is telling lies

he is teling lies , huge big porkies

( no offence to our jewish/muslim freinds)

Iv'e been there. It's a medium sized town. Absolutely beautiful place fwiw.I don't recall any more military or security there than anywhere else but as a tourist these things can pass you by unless you are looking. I certainly wouldn't have considered it a likely place for the worlds most wanted man to hide. Pakistan is full of wild tribal towns where he could find sympathetic locals and where the reach of the army and the state is stretched. I would have guessed he would be holed up in one of those

I have just spent an hour chatting online to two Pakistani friends in Punjab and they both dismiss the story as bullshit. The US is storing up a lot of trouble by playing things like this. If he is dead they had better prove it. The thing is conspiracy theories aren't harmless they arise from and further reinforce a distrust of the West and especially the USA and play straight into the hands of the Taliban and Islamist groups by creating an opening for their propaganda.

One other thing about this. He was holed up in the middle of a garrison town. A town by no means isolated in any way. In a million pound mansion. One of the biggest in town. Surrounded by walls and barbed wire. Inside that Villa, he was armed to the teeth. Reports are of rocket launchers fired at the helicopter and a 40 minute firefight. So inside this Villa he had enough arms to engage special forces and a helicopter.

And the Pakistani military didn't know ? Like fuck.

I also find it a very strange chose of place to "hide" :hmm:

If he's been there for nigh on 10 years it would seem it's a pretty good choice.

The drones that have been pounding NWFP have left that town alone for a start.

Given all we have heard about the ISI, the general level of murk surrounding Al Q & the war on terror in general, and the city locations where other high ranking figures have previously been located, I'm not surprised at all that he was not found in a remote cave. Having said that I obviously would not have been able to predict exactly where they would find him, and the amount of military bases & retired army people living in that location makes the whole thing a good deal more 'interesting' than I might have imagined.

I see they are confirming that the woman who died was one of his wives, I dont find this surprising either.

are you actually disappointed at this news??

I would be happy with the news if I didn't think the whole thing was a stunt and there were a simple thing called proof. I would also be happier if I knew where this was going. Bin laden was used as a visible figurehead for an invisible enemy after the cold war enemy dried up and the narco enemy proved willing to invest his money in american banks. It's not something to celebrate a la americana because we are now at a heightened risk of terrorist attack in the west. If there are attacks who knows where the US army will land next.

If it's a stunt set up with the intention of creating a viable excuse for an exit plan for US troops from Afghanistan then it could be deemed excusable, except that right now I would guess that innocent people are being killed in the wave of fanatical retribution which must surely come of it. Also, what would the withdrawn troops be diverted to in a time of economic crisis. Peeling spuds all day at a base in Wisconsin or boots on the ground in Libia?

Are we to believe that the US will stop being imperialist now that OBL is dead?

If they can take out Osama with a bit of intelligence, surely they could get Gaddafi just as easily, without a massive land invasion. Interesting point though.

he's gone for the tactic of getting into one building and never leaving it, keep the numbers who know about it to an absolute minimum and hope for the best. probably better than relying on wider numbers as he would if he kept moving.

the proximity to to the military place isn't a coincidence or added danger but (and i speculate) possible explained by the property/ land having been given to him by someone highup who worked there, or had it built for him and oversaw construction - something along those lines possibly.

the idea that the Pakistani PM or all OBL's neighbours or all the folk at this military compound knew where he was isn't credible, but the decision of his locating so close to the military place is explained in part by it in some way i would imagine.

With twenty five million dollars + a green cards for you & your family for the cost of a phone call, there can't have been many in Pakistan that knew he was there.

If you look at the digs he was supposedly in it resembles more a doss house than a Bond Villain hideout. Are we to believe this guy had money to fund terrorism but lived in desperate slum conditions? Have the US PR guys shown the portraits of Hitler and the bondage gear in the basement yet?

What a weekend the patriotism wing of international capital has been having!

Marriage of a future head of state and death to evil terrorist mastermind. Long live the system!

Of course he had the funds to have bank-rolled a permanent pad at Claridges, but that's hardly in keeping with his strict Islamic holy man image he'd cultivated for himself, is it?

unlike Obama's spokesman I'm not trying to convince anybody, just speculating for the fun of it. as are those jumping in saying its all a stunt/ lie/ hoax to be fair.

Is the Internet really the right place for indulging in wild, unsubstantiated rumour and idle speculation?

He had long since turned his back on materialism, besides this must have been a fucking palace compared with many of his previous hideouts.

if that's what your basing your analysis on........

No I'd base it on something like the death of OBL serving as a catalyst for a change in strategy/direction for the US, the way 9/11 served as a catalyst for murderous change in US foreign policy.

If all is to be believed, they apparently knew about him being there last august but have only acted on the info now. That proves to me that the timing was important. He was saved for now.

Abbotabad by James Abbot

I adored the place from the first sight
And was happy that my coming here was right

And eight good years here passed very soon
And we leave our perhaps on a sunny noon

Oh Abbottabad we are leaving you now
To your natural beauty do I bow

Perhaps your winds sound will never reach my ear
My gift for you is a few sad tears

I bid you farewell with a heavy heart
Never from my mind will your memories thwart
