On this thread, we like synthesisers.

Not so bad, thanks. Yourself?

I'm not brilliant at soldering, myself. I just take it steady and slow, and check everything with a multimeter, before putting any power through it. I've also decided to take a class, to see where I'm going wrong. Probably my shaky hands don't help! :D

Really good thanks mate. :)

A class! I am quite fond of a well run course. I'll have to see if there are any in this area. It's a bit shit where I am for things like that. There's a really good Maker hub in Leeds, where you can learn to fix electronics. I might have to go there and have a mooch.

Who else has a Volca? I got the keys. Simple but sounds really nice, fuzzy analogue goodness.

The modular, Euroack thing is a rabit hole I don't want to go down, I've got a guitar habit too...

Volca's sound great, for really cheap. How many octaves does the Keys have?

25 I think. ON a flat touch panel thing. I can't really use them. Mostly I have it connected via my DAW to my full size controller keyboard. It has quite a few octaves though. Sounds pretty good as a bass.

I binned all my stuff when I was 40. Swore I'd never write or play again.

I now have a DX7, Korg M1, Korg DW6000, an Aturia Keylab61, Cubase 10 and a billion VSTs.

Annoyingly I can't get rid of the latency issues from the Aturia to Cubase (Via a Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6) so it's all just gathering dust.

I'd love to be able to just sit down and play but the latency, although only a fraction out, is enough to stop me playing anything classical or fast - I'm up the other end of the keyboard and the latency has only caught up to Middle C. Which sucks. I've never been able to work out how to fix it.

There should be pretty much zero latency with that setup. Do you have the correct ASIO driver selected in Cubase?

Literally no idea Saul. I went from Cubase v2 which I knew inside out to v10 which is just confusing (although intrinsically the same just with more bells and whistles).

I do try and fix it sometimes, but as a piano player first and a programmer second I get frustrated when I can't just sit down and play

Have a look here.

Binned? As in, in a bin for the binperson to throw away binned?

Korg M1. DX7. Korg M1....DX7. KORG M1. DX7.

I'm writing one just for you, bee. It goes on and on, whilst being really very lovely.

I'm also putting all the Techno thread into a Spotify playlist so I might be a while. Then there's toast and outside and thoughts to think about.

Actually, here's a thought!

Did you get it?

No?

It was something about making a tune between us, like Endless but more farting about. We could send WAVs or a Garageband file to each other. That would be smashing, wouldn't it?

Distinct lack of modular jams on the thread boys.

I've seen people I care about go down the modular synth rabbit hole. It's not a pretty sight. I think one guy ended up soldering parts of his own brain into the damn thing.

Give me something with a keyboard thanks.

My boy Polypores (the first artist I released on the label, he's gone on to carve himself a nice little niche in the ambient synth world) has been posting regular modular jams throughout the lockdown - he's up to number 10 (click through for more if you like 'em)

I saw him at the Delaware Road last year, good stuff.

Nice - I really wanted to go to that but had prior commitments.

Hopefully they do something similar again soon, it was just what i needed at the time and sorted my head right out. I would definitely take a folding/camping chair with me next time though, I had a proper sore arse for a few days after.

Yeahh, I gave all my studio gear away that I had, and destroyed all my lyric books, notepads, cds everything.

And then two years later got the itch and bought the new studio including the M1, DX7 and the other Korg. I don't play them though. They're museum pieces. I just like looking at them.

I really want to start a thread about music production but I'm slightly worried that no one will come. Not like that.

I have a few bits and pieces all put together in a row but I don't really know how to move it along.
