On this thread, we like synthesisers.

Cheers. Needs finishing but I want to play around with the piano and massive reverb thing again. I'm still not very good on keys but a piano and huge reverb = instant moody ambience.

I was learning keyboard but it was too much of a faff to get it out, practice and then put it away. I still want to but I need more space. I use midi files now and change them to whatever suits.

It's like a midi toolkit that has a lot of free plugins on the Ableton website. Can't say I've ever actually used any with intent but they're good for generating ideas.
The most basic of them to use is the LFO (although it's now more integrated so doesn't seem like it's still using Max). You can use it to modulate anything in a device that might not normally be modulatable.

Someone else will know more but I think it's like a programmatic way of making sound. Writing code to generate audio events, that sort of thing. IIRC.
But done right and with a nice UI, devices can be commercial grade iyswim

So, my relationship with the Aphex Twin is a weird one. About 3/4 of his ouput i've zero interest in. Oddly because he's so prolific it kind of makes the music seem somewhat disposable (I realise that's nonsensical).

I have SAW1 which I like. SAW2 is a very mixed bag with a few lovely pieces and a lot of filler. On is my favourite. Ventolin and Donkey Rhubarb are ok. I have those ep's on vinyl gathering dust, but when he went all acidy glitchy I lost interest. However I'm listening to DrukQS right now and think it's fabulous (better than Syro/Cheetah).

Like many before me, I'm trying to figure out how he actyally composes. I don't think it's what i'd want to do myself, but Id like to learn a few things. Of course there are many people doing the heavily glitched Drum/bass parts with the really simple analog melody over the top that it's a bit hackneyed at this point.

I felt the same about Boards of Canada and Burial. They're pretty much deconstructed now but I know what you mean about a certain sound.

In a completely unrelated thing, I've just found this, which removes vocals from tracks and is completely free. I don't really understand it yet so it's kind of leaving behind a whisper of the tune underneath a very clean vocal but it's much better than, say, Splitter, imo.

I like this, sort of an ident intro and then a bit World in Action ... But you have me on ignore so I'll just swear instead. Ya turnip.
I forgive you. I will take you off because I have decided I like Boards of Canada. A decision i shoudl have arrived at 20 years ago when I bought Geogaddi and came to dislike it for some reason

You blocked me because of Boards of Canada? :D Anyway, we both like synths. I like the music you're producing and would like to hear more. And I don't talk about Brexit that often. :p

No, I unblocked you because their music put me in a good mood. I've been listening to a lot of stuff on Bandcamp.

Thanks. If you want to hear more, I posted my bandcamp link above somewhere. Automated Hero
