Damon Albarn and Toumani Diabate - Mali Music

not my favourite of TD's collaborations, has to be said, but not that shoddy either

the sun is out and I have got

Kids For Tomorrow - Nequa album

D-Bong

edit: Great Tiger Lake - this is Magic :)

Annnnd after a little Sacred Harp, now to finish off a stressful chock-full-of-wankers-on-the-phone day, a bit more Toumani - The Mande Variations

He's right up there with Mississippi John Hurt for balm to the soul

Pigbag - "Pigbag Volume 1: Dr Heckle & Mr Jive + Early Singles"

They've re-issued pretty much everything they ever recorded on a couple of double CDs this month.
And they're rehearsing for reunion gigs, 27 years after they split up.

(Full disclosure: I run the Pigbag fan site)

i only really know their eponymous hit single, but the b side was good... what's the rest of their stuff like?

The early stuff on Volume 1 is most similar to Papa's... with lots of brass and percussion and a jam session feel to the b-sides and some album tracks.

The later stuff on Volume 2 is more formal, with a female singer, Angela Jaeger, brought in. Less frantic but more considered and still pretty funky.

If you like Papa's, tracks like "Whoops goes my body" and "Sunny Day" will probably appeal, and there's some darker stuff in there more like the b-side o the 7" of Papa's.

i'm currently downloading frank de wulf - live @ ark, april '93, which i hope is my favourite mixtape ever.

if not, i'm going to have to find the february mix and see if that's it...

John Lennon (& Yoko) - Peace, Love And Truth: the musical life and times of John and Yoko The dream lives on...

Comp done for Asia/Australia only (and shouldn't've been sold in this county ;) ) ,with good/great quality remastered/remixed versions of most of the songs. John's demo Help Me To Help Myself sounds much much better than the mp3 I had ages ago and it's great to finally get Yoko's Listen The Snow Is Falling in non worn 7" format. There's two new versions/re-edits of Give Peace A Chance both sampling the original chorus, shame Yoko's y2k time to move on from 9/11 version wasn't the original net version, remember than being rawer and not having the extra 90's Kravetz guitar.)

Bright Eyes - "Cassadaga"

wonderful packaging - had fun with with the magic bit of plastic revealing the mystical woodcuts (and fiddling with the glue to see if thre was anything hidden under the cd tray - omg it's full of stars)
