Olympics 2024 - General Discussion

dont miss out the Jack McMillan, he still gets a medal for swimming in the semis. The second Northern Irishman to win tonight and the first NI gold for Team GB since 1986.
Very good point, Jack McMillan and also Kieran Bird helped the team get into the final so well done to those guys too. NI swimmers doing great today whether representing 🇬🇧 or 🇮🇪 :)

some dude on the guardian page says you were right:

James Greatorex gets in touch: “Just a quick clarification on your live blog on the gymnastics: The US fans weren’t cheering for the Chinese gymnast’s fall. There’s four routines going at the same time, they were cheering for Jordan Chile’s stuck landing on her bar routine.”
That's good to hear. The timing of them doing it was unfortunate to a millisecond though.

Well done GB relay team, we finally get God save the King in the swimming pool.

Back to the trap shooting gold, two things occurred to me. First, it's the one sport that couldn't be disrupted by Just stop Oil. With all that orange dust every time some shoots a clay pigeon, no one would notice if they ran on throwing orange dust around. Secondly, getting gold was the result of a nearly 40 year journey started by Del Boy Trotter. :D ......

Murray +1's next opponents dont play until tomorrow morning. As the semis are on Thursday, they are probably going to be playing for the second time the same day (ike tomorrow) in the quarters. Which would be handy as Paul & Fritz are a pretty good pairing.

Didn’t realise Australia had lost their semi; they seemed to be winning when I switched off.
They were, with 34 seconds to go.

Then a USA player breaks through the Aus line, runs pretty much the length of the pitch (with the whole game chasing her, wish I'd got a photo), converted try, whistle blows, USA have a bronze, Aus have nought.

It was quite dramatic 😁

At work watching the triathlon. I feel for them. It's wet, little clothing, bike racing on cobbles. At least 15 have come down already. It's really tough.

Not sure I like the idea of interviewing the athletes straight after they've lost, seems rather cruel. The GB girl who lost in the Judo yesterday, for example. She's just seen her Olympic dreams dashed in a minute after all the work she put in over the years to get there, she's in bits and straight away there's a camera in her face, a microphone shoved under her nose and some presenter asking stupid questions like "how are you feeling?"

I agree, that interview was awful to watch, the poor girl. It felt really invasive and unneeded tbh. We know she's going to be gutted, we don't need to see the evidence.

Great morning start. Looking forward to the BMX finals this afternoon and a strong chance of a medal for Kieran Reilly. Like all the X games stuff that's been brought into the Olympics, they are a different attitude and culture and are all really supportive of each other.

Great performance in the rowing and mens triathlon. GB athletes were looking dead and buried in both but got there at the end. Cracking stuff.
