Olympics 2024 - General Discussion

Pretty disgusting behaviour by the USA supporters in the gymnastics final. When the Chinese girl fell off the beam they all leaped up cheering and waving their flags around. We're only on the start of the second round too.

I assumed the cheering was coincidental, for a USA routine happening elsewhere. Was it actually aimed at the Chinese gymnast? That is rather dispiriting if so.
some dude on the guardian page says you were right:

James Greatorex gets in touch: “Just a quick clarification on your live blog on the gymnastics: The US fans weren’t cheering for the Chinese gymnast’s fall. There’s four routines going at the same time, they were cheering for Jordan Chile’s stuck landing on her bar routine.”

They haven’t got the full rights to show everything. Only allowed to show two streams.
Exactly but unfortunately they also miss out live action to either chat about things already happened or there's always that feature on Tom Daley or Adam Peaty to show for the umpteenth time.

I don't think I've ever seen two teams enjoy their national anthems more than in the Women's Rugby 7s final :D
I was hoping bbc would show this but have gone to discovery for it.

Didn’t realise Australia had lost their semi; they seemed to be winning when I switched off.

Watching it now, have gone from the start so a bit behind

Eurosport claims it is showing the R7s. It isn’t, the fuckers. I mean, I like nadal, but it’s not a gold medal match!

They're were some brilliant routines going on there.

I feel really sorry for the GB women, they chugged away with really solid, really good performances with very few mistakes but were 0.2 away from the bronze. They should still be very, very proud though.

I noticed that the Canadian team were holding the shirt of one of their players who got injured earlier in the tournament and had to withdraw - quite a classy move that.

Yes, it was a real shame and right at the last minute too. Fantastic competition though!

Yes, same. Even though Italy and Brazil have made a bit of history for themselves, I don't feel that Brazil's all around performance was better than ours.

She got the best score as she's a bars specialist these days. Come the final, she'll be up against the other specialists - not necessarily drawn from those we saw today. Still, the score would have been good enough for silver in Tokyo. Can't be more helpful as I can't find a list of the eight women actually in the damned thing

BBC, please FUCK OFF with these endless "Andy Murray is on the other channel! Why are you watching the swimming!?" graphics all over the fucking screen

Daniel Wiffin... unreal..
His legs didn't start to kick until the last 100m in the 800m race.
Unbelievable ... new Olympic record and he says he could have gone faster.

His coach and family said when asked how he prepared for the race...answered that he does his own thing and chills out with online social media stuff.

Can't wait to see what he does next.

Mona MacSharry won bronze the other day for 100m breast stroke.

Go Ireland 🇮🇪
