Nintendo have the worst adverts ever

abandoned, alone, apart, oneself, comfortless, companionless, deserted, desolate, destitute, disconsolate, down, empty, estranged, forsaken, godforsaken, homeless, isolated, left, lone, lonesome, outcast, reclusive, rejected, renounced, secluded, single, solitary, troglodytic, unattended, unbefriended, uncherished, unsocial, withdrawn

what a bittersweet victory.

People, take a step back and start thinking about how Nintendo are positioning the Wii, and specifically how each game 'ad' is different.

The Wii is being positioned as a piece of kit bought by people who don't buy videogaming equipment; the console as a family/social toy. By using catalogue models, just as they have in the DS ads, as well as sleb endorsements, they are raising the Wii out of the Xbox harcore gamer and PS3 total lifestyle choice.

As a campaign it's worked brilliantly, getting over the easy to use nature, non-hardcore gaming and the joy and fun that owning a Wii can bring for the whole family. Irrespective of whether any of you lot buy stuff on the back of sleb endorsement (lots of people do) or whether you think the ads look cheap.

wiii fit ads and brain training ads. It's obvious that they're pushing at hitherto un explored markets with these ads. Doesn't make the ads any good of course

oh i agree they aren't aimed at me, but not all the best ads are aimed at 20 something males. a lot of food companies do great ads aimed at families or mams, etc

the current nintendo ads work well as a sponsorship intro into a programme(like the galdiator ones) but are a bit shit.

They must be aimed at the likes of me and my sprog though, because whenver one is on we usually end up chatting about whether it would be a good game to get or not.

Wii Music looks bloody boring though.

What kyser said, basically - they're selling consoles and games to people who don't 'DO' consoles and games.

Even down to the boring living room environment, it's designed to look comfortable, non-threatening, mostly focussing on the social aspects of the game rather than the games themselves.

The sleb endorsement aspect is very cleverly and believably done.

Overall, it may not be entertaining advertising but it's good advertising.

I think they tactic of targeting the consoles for day to day use is very forward thinking. With hand held tech like iPhones and Blackberrys, plus electric paper not too far away, Nintendo are going for a multi-purpose tool rather than just a games toy.
