Nine Bob Note's Birthday Honours :: Greatest DETECTIVE/POLICE Show NOMINATIONS

I used to get Due South and Northern Exposure mixed up.

Northern Exposure was like Due South crossed with Twin Peaks with the cop stuff taken out. Or something.
I remember Northern Exposure as being my favourite thing of all time. But I was about 17 when I was watching it. I have been reluctant to go back, in case I taint my memories.

Inspector John Rebus too. I think Ken Stott played a different cop in Messiah---which became a bit icky. Love all the UK and Scandinavin series posted.

To play devil's advocate, is The Wire strictly a police show? It's just as much about the criminals and the politics of Baltimore.

So, that's 142 shows nominated so far. Expect the elimination rounds to finish sometime after Xmas
Here's 2 more...

Methinks I'm gonna have to use an external polling site to whittle this lot down to something manageable :( The alternative is that they are placed into groups (say three or four shows) and you vote for the groups containing your favourite shows. All the shows in the winning groups would then be placed into the next round - this, of course, means that a group containing Columbo and the Wire might drag Hetty Wainthropp though to the next round.

Perhaps you would prefer this to resemble the FA cup with round after round after round? I really do have other polls in mind and don't want to be bogged-down with this until February.

Thoughts?

I think you're being a bit dramatic. Just get on with it and I'm sure we can get through this lot by early November. You might want to close nominations though.

Why not list them all and then we all PM you our top 10's from the list - that should help you whittle it down to about 40 shows in a week or two, and then after that you can then play off against each other like before.

Just do a Wire v Columbo run off. That's what it will end as, and every other result is entirely meaningless anyway. It'll also save having weeks of the board being dominated by shit polls

do it by decade chuck, have them running simultaneously for a week with a run-off at the end.

Many of the nominations were made in jest, surely?
I hereby withdraw these nominations:
Pie In The Sky (never seen it)
Swallow (only exists in Alan Partridge's mind)
The Red Hand Gang (haven't seen since I was a little kid, not really a detective show anyway)
The A Team (it's great but, again, not really a detective show. Even though they were convicted of crimes they never committed, they were on the wrong side of the law, being vigilantes, not detectives)
