I really rate it - its a proper album, not just a collection of tracks
I was wrong though, its not the missing Manix material from 92/93, its new music and absolutely of its time (now)- its different from old MAnix productions in some subtle ways: theres almost no drum chopping for example (i think one harder track goes at some chops) mainly just lots of looped little breaks, theres less ideas crammed into one track, its as if the corners are rounded off and rough edges smoothed down. Lots and lots of classic vocal samples thoughout make it feel lyrical somehow....
Listening to it feels like a memory - without getting too pseudo i kept thinking its like a love letter to the past - its definitely still got all the heart and soul from that time but its not got the manic madness of 92/93 - but that isnt a bad thing, and infact makes it a really pleasurable listen from start to finish in a way that some of the original material isnt.
DnB/Jungle/Hardcore albums are almost never good, im not a fan of any of them - its just not music that suits an album format - id go as far as saying that this might just be the best rave album of all time! It actually works as an album, the tracks follow on from each other perfectly, its a little journey. No long intros and outros designed for djs, seem crafted for album listening... though in fact lots of old manix tracks also had that quality.
Never got goosepimples from it, not even screwed up my face (maybe once!), but its opened up an old familiar warm spot inside right in the solar plexus and i cant wait to play it again. emotional
how are you enjoying it steph??
