My cycle storage solution

I used to have the same set-up before I got the shed. It was an arse putting the bikes on/getting them down.

I have a massive back cellar which is properly dry lined (used for band practices so not actually that much spare space), and a low-headroom front cellar that isn't lined but isn't too damp and would probably be ideal for stowing bikes. Unfortunately this still means negotiating the kitchen, dining room (via two sharp 90 degree turns) and a steep stone staircase with no handrail. I think I need some kind of dumb-waiter type set up built into the kitchen fireplace.

Mainly I just want something out of the way but where I can pick up my bike and go without pissing about. Sometimes I wish I'd bought the house with the double-width hallway. It's daft having eleven rooms and nowhere to put a bike.

I found it a bit difficult at first, thought my builder friend had positioned the bracket too high but it works very well where it is.

No fucking way I'm showing my missus this thread. She'll have me buying one of those and they look expensive...
Also lifting your bike up there keeps you fit. The picture is flawed however because the walls are so white. That won't last long !
We have one of the fixed ones but it's worth noting that ladies bikes don't really work with them. It's supposed to be for 2 bikes but 1 is realistic.

I'm thinking about doing this, a timely bump there DJWrongspeed :)
We have an alcove bit in the hall which fitted 2 bikes nicely, but now we have three - and the missus is making noises about buying a roadbike also to make four total.
Rather than choose between them, makes sense to use them as wall-hangings!! Wonder if the wall would take the weight of two lightweight bikes, rented place so don;t wannt get a pro in - I've got decent tools. Hmm..
