Mumbai: coordinated terrorist attacks, westerners targetted

Thing is though, it's hard to imagine a cruder and stupider ideology than that which mears espouses. Makes your average Taliban fanatic seem like an urbane sophisticate.
I've got to dissagree with this. Throwing acid in young girl's faces is neither urbane nor sophiscated - thought the Taliban have denied any involvement.

But this is Afghanistan, so who knows?

That is not to detract from the fact that neo-con philosophy is, indeed cruel and stupid.

The thing is the people behind the attack are almost certainly from Lakshar-e-Taiba or from another Pakistani extremist Islamist organisation.
These people have training camps in Northern Waziristan overseen by Al-Q.

Its sort of bizarre when you think back that when the US invaded Afgahnistan they chased Al-Q from Tora Bora then allowed them to escape to Northern Pakistan where they set up shop again.

Osama Bin Laden is in Pakistan-surrounded obviously by initially hundreds of Arab fighters, then thousands of Chechens,Pakistanis,Afgahns then protected by the Islamist local government of Waziristan-and ultimately by the Pakistani Govt (or more correctly the ISI)-which sees these groups as useful adjuncts in their own ongoing aims against India,Kashmir and Afganistan.

How should India deal with this?-stay cool-demand Pakistan close down the Al-q camps-its got a monster Army why not?

What a sad situation, India and their Muslims have enjoyed relative peace amongst themselves and the cancer of Islamic fanaticism had not taken hold among India's Muslims, lets hope it stays that way.

Either way, India is now dragged into the fight against this crude and ignorant ideology. The belief system stuck in the middle ages and spread among the illiterate and destitute by a few educated radicals at the top.

Those educated men not quite smart enough to offer a blueprint of the future.

I would imagine India and the US will work together to convince the Pakistani government to not placate the region and move against any foreign fighters on Pakistani soil.

I think the key here is Pakistani fighters on Pakistani soil.

I spotted this article, which describes how extremists are trying to tear India apart.
The monsters who are behind this attack seem to understand very well that if they break Mumbai, they break India.

Also the Man who didn't fear death
Mr Karkare did not believe in ordering his subordinates to deal with the terrorists while sitting in the comfort of his office or barking orders from a police vehicle.

He believed in leading from the front. That was him.

This is really quite terrible. :(

Christianity (i.e. The New Testament) does not say anything about persecuting those who disagree, so I'm not sure what you mean by intolerant. Having said that, too many christians have ignored this and have persecuted regardless.

Erm, tell me, which is a more tolerant statement?
The only way to god is through accepting Jesus Christ as saviour,
or
the only way to god is by submission to his rules

Let's not get off topic - we were discussing persecution of non-believers, no?

Meanwhile, it's good to see that the Daily Express knows where its priorities lie...

I'm surprised the smaller headline didn't read "124 darkies also killed".

Or 'A frenchman was also killed but his English wasn't too good' (from a Not the Nine O Clock News sketch)

Radicalisation of Kasmir

The ISI created the Taliban funded by Saudi cash - but it already had a template in the various groups it had set up, trained and maintainted in what Pakistani call Azad Kashmir(Free Kashmir). Recently the Delhi Govt reradicalised what had been a gradually quietening situation by handing what had been the common land of a Muslim village to a Hindhu shrine (I did post this on here, but.....I suppose its too obscure for most), when the peole porsted, the Army opened fire with live ammo. They still protested. The road was then blocked by Sangh memembers (BJP, VHP,RSS) who trevented Muslim fruit farmers from getting their procuce town to the markets in Haryana, Dehli, etc. The cropw was ruined, 45 dead, etc
Literally just the week before this madness Krshmiri seperatist groups were bemoaning the lack of radicalism in the young - utterly stupid for a Congress Govt to support such blantant communalism.

All that aside, the attempt by these guys to involve Deccan/Hydrabad is based on the events of 48 when Indian armies invaded the mainly Muslim Princely state of Hydrabad with mass rapes looting and killing - lovely bloke that Nehru -as well as Kashmir - so it is also trying to draw attention to what they see as Hindu indiffernce to India large Muslim population as no one ever even mentions what happened in the Deccan. Heres a report by Time Mag showing how India then presented it - The Happy War

iRobot - I suspect that the people you talk to are the accused in the Best Bakery case and virtually everything you right is effectively Sangh propaganda
Do you have a picture of that disgusting mass murderer Modi on your wall somewhere?

Ah, have you really forgotten -- so soon! -- Bush announcing his great Crusade against the Axis of Evil on Earth?!

I didn't realise they were done in the name of Christianity or that the USA, which has no state religion, acts in the name of Christianity.
Is this a different USA then to the one whose President speaks of 'Crusades' and claims God himself told him to attack other countries, and whose Cabinet consists of Christian fundamantalists who believe in the literal interpretation of the Bible?

I can't believe this is still going on (the siege that is). It's not as if there are any tense hostage negociations going on (or that we know of), the longer this go's on the worse it reflects upon the Indian army.

Perhaps the idea is to sit it out for a bit and wait for the terrorists to get tired, hungry and inattentive.

There's always a good bit in hostage films when the terrorists argue among themselves about what the best thing to do is. While this is reality and not fiction, there's clearly an advantage to the army to make the preparations they need in their own time and take the initiative when it best suits them.

I agree with that except all reports suggest loads of explosions still going on and what are they waiting for. It appears they have been merrily shooting hostages so why bother waiting

Of course it's mindless speculation but I couldnt see the SAS taking this long to flush out a hotel, they took about 10 minutes for the Iranian embassy a few years back.

They had a week to prepare, plus the world has moved on rather - yer "terrorists" are much better trained and equipped now - Thank you the CIA
