running from law and the press and the parents
After the sad news about the real Lydd Station being devasted by fire this week I had to update my own model of it so it was prototypical
I'm currently trying to get a rise out of the model railway community with that video. As you know, I like models, and fishing
Ceci n'est pas un trainIt's pure art. I hope you get the rise you're looking for.
Totally!! Its going to be mountains and caves and crazy bridges. Its a fantasy layout. Not trying to make it look like anything, part of the aim is to muck about with modeling techniques I've not done before, like Das clay for stone work, making wooden trestle type bridges, that kind of thing. The specs make for an unusual geographical feature.
This is a refreshing antidote to the - very worthwhile, but sometimes stultifying - modelling approach which, at its apotheosis, starts getting worried about which species of grass is in the meadow just past the station.Totally!! The idea for the "fantasy" side of it is best described by comparing to steam punk but instead of a steam future it's a steam fantasy world where steam existed before it actually did. I've described it as if Hobbits had steam trains to people before! So think if Hobbits lived in a rocky cornish port and had steam trains!!!

Oh god yes! That's my main bag too to be honest, but from a realism perspective, not a train nerd one ( I am a bit train nerdy)This is a refreshing antidote to the - very worthwhile, but sometimes stultifying - modelling approach which, at its apotheosis, starts getting worried about which species of grass is in the meadow just past the station.
Disclaimer: I am fascinated by the kind of modelling which, when carefully photographed, is difficult to distinguish from the prototype. I know I could never apply that kind of rigour and attention to detail to it.
Those ferns on the embankment look a bit iffy, if you ask me. Especially if this is supposed to be North WalesOh god yes! That's my main bag too to be honest, but from a realism perspective, not a train nerd one ( I am a bit train nerdy)
You remind me, I found these pics on Facebook and I was amazed!!! I genuinely had to zoom in and check at first!

I think that might be up there with the most realistic picture of a model railway I have ever seenThose ferns on the embankment look a bit iffy, if you ask me. Especially if this is supposed to be North Wales
But yes - that's getting close to model railway porn, right there.
How am I doing?will it be finshed before crossrail?
These 2 pics are about my best attempt at models that fool the eye. And in fairness this was a small railway diorama and you can't even see the track or trains!!!Those ferns on the embankment look a bit iffy, if you ask me. Especially if this is supposed to be North Wales
They nailed the mist, though

Yeah, track does look good in P4.
The track work P4 modellers create can look incredibly realistic.
Do you mean as in they've got it right? The depth cues sell it. Mist and focus.
Yeah, bang on.Do you mean as in they've got it right?
It is beautiful!! I'd live to see what the layout, the best of the best would build in all areas, track, signals, locos, scenery etcIn P4 you also get nutters who hand build things like this:

Never mind hand making 10 crossing V’s and fitting all the blades in, imagine trying to work out the wiring for it…

You are best starting with a huge disposable income and massive amounts of time, sadly 2 things I don't have, but it's a hobby for life, not just for Christmas!!I’d love to have a go at building something like this but haven’t a scooby where to start. Kudos to you that do though, love looking through them
Unfortunately neither do I. Will carry on admiring from afarYou are best starting with a huge disposable income and massive amounts of time, sadly 2 things I don't have, but it's a hobby for life, not just for Christmas!!
Perhaps, you could join one or other of the Model Railway Clubs ...Unfortunately neither do I. Will carry on admiring from afar
