Men's Squad 2024/25

A match day signing - Filip Chalupniczak, 23-year old goalkeeper, most recently with Bracknell Town and Fleet Town last season.

He's been involved in the pre-match warm up for the last two home games. Max Hudson is the other additional substitute on a 7 man bench, in a squad otherwise unchanged from Monday:

Oli Lynch, 19-year old striker on loan from Luton.

Had a few months on loan at Hitchin Town at the end of last season, looks like he made a few appearances without scoring whilst there.

From the Luton website when he signed professional development terms a year ago:

“Born in Milton Keynes, the striker has been on the Hatters books since joining as an under-14. He describes himself as an old-school centre-forward, who likes to run in behind and hold the ball up and score goals.”

Stefan Ilic departs. Not overly surprising given the mobility in his career so far.

Clear ability, but not sure he had a long term fit in Hayrettin’s preferred system.

He's too good a player to be kicking his heels in this division, and I thought he looked decent against us in National South. He was probably contesting a central role with Porter and Scott, otherwise one of the wing positions, where we also have plenty of options.

New goalkeeper on loan. Aged 21 and was named on the bench for the recent league match against Preston. He also had a loan spell with Dorchester last season.

Aamir Daniels and Filip Chalupniczak are released, with Arber Grosha replacing the latter as goalkeeper cover.

Arber is a former Wolves academy player and Charlton Athletic triallist, who has also had spells with Forest Hill Park, Ashford Town Mx, Godmanchester Rovers and St Ives Town.

Do we normally roll with 3 keepers in the squad?

Seems a touch excessive at this level, but I assume the wages for a 3rd choice keeper in the isthmian prem aren't that huge

It's now 8 weeks since the season started and there have been relatively few comings and goings since then, compared to last season, with most of the activity revolving around goalkeeping cover. I guess that means Hak must feel significantly happier with his summer recruitment than last year.

Of the players released in the summer, only Alfie Egan and Ayuk Tarh remain unaccounted for. Jack Westbrook, the only unretained pre-season triallist I managed to identify, also doesn't appear to be playing anywhere else yet.

Jameson Horlick loan extended for another month, with Dillon Barnes not yet match fit:

Does anyone know how these loans from higher teams work? Do they come with a clause saying they player must start if fit, or does Hak always have discretion on team selection?

Depends on the deal. Some have clauses like that, some don't. I remember the Kingsley Eshun loan from QPR from a few years ago said we could have him for nowt, but if he got injured we'd have to pay. Always seemed like a disincentive to actually play him!

Personally I’d always thought the idea of bringing in a loan player was to play them particularly if the club had been proactive to sign them. I suppose the only exception might be a goalkeeper that could sit on the bench “just in case” if the club only had a single keeper. From a personal POV if a club made a move to bring me in loan I’d want to be playing but then again there’s no financial incentive at my level of football unless Brentford are the club making the move!!

Dami Taiwo-Pratt has joined Haringey Borough, but will continue to train with us. Article isn’t clear whether it’s permanent or a loan.

Can’t help thinking this is another example of how not having a reserve or youth structure causes us problems.

The wording is a bit ambiguous. If he was under contract it would be easy just to say "has joined Haringey Borough on loan for 1/2/3 months". We often placed Aspire academy players with Step 4 clubs on an "unofficial loan" basis by transferring them on the understanding they would return if needed. Jamie Mascoll was one (with Grays) and Ethan Pinnock was dual registered with Holmesdale as a teenager. I suspect Dami is a non-contract player, but Hak rates him sufficiently to retain an interest and maybe sees him as one for next season?
