How.can.this.happen?

The Warchowskis (spelling etc) get too caught up in the philosophical themes and the "what it's" of their imaginary worlds in sequels. See matrix sequels and second series of Sense8. Just tell a fun story, FFS.

one reviewer I saw was showing how wedded to determinism and shoving the thoery of down your throat number 2 was. I didn't notice at the time, I just knew it was bad.

Also: Rave in Zion :(

My expectation was that Zion was to be revealed as anothe rlayer of the machine illusion. But that didn't happen, instead Smith somehow possesses a real human being and the whole thing goes full gnostic bullshit. Such a shame, I love the first movie.

The first matrix got the philosophy just right for what is essentially a dumb action flick. It got the viewer to ask themselves some interesting questions about how do we know what is real, but did so very much in the context of the story. It didn't feel overly contrived.

See also most of the stories in The Animatrix. Stories first, with the Big Ideas present, but as background dressing.

The sequels were so determined to go deeper in exploring even more ideas that at points it felt like the story had been written just to fit in with the "big" ideas. Also, boring bits of dialogue with characters who were completely railroaded in simply for the purpose of a tedious lecture before the next action sequence. The Merovingian and Persephone bits in particular. I've seen the film a few times and I still have no idea how they fit into the story and world. Because they basically don't.

And yeah, Zion rave is yuck.

anyone else see him playing himself as a major celeb douche in Always Be My Maybe  ? He's obvs a good sport.

I'm open-minded, right script/angle, I can see a Matrix 4 working

Bill and Teds excellent adventure was 10 years before Matrix but I don't know anything but Bill and Ted he did in between

They're making another Bill and Ted too:

Keanu Reeves Shows Off Shiny New Guitar for Bill & Ted: Face The Music

While I have greater hope for this than Matrix IV, I have to wonder if the things that carried the movie are going to work here. Between the youthful exuberance and George Carlin, Bill and Ted movies worked. They don't have either to call upon now. They're going to have to break into unknown territory here.

I'm open to being proven wrong. I hope its a good movie.

They'll twang the nostalgia guitar as hard as they can.

So I bet the plot is Matrix The Next Generation. A few years after the orignals, a young group of hacktivists discover that the system is being run by Donald Trumpbot and they need to find the Mysterious Benefactor. That is the legendary Neo who was believed lost to the system years ago (ffs he died) and thus Keanu will earn his fat salary just by being a CGI thing. Then everyone learns the value of diversity and some other shit happens

He's very funny in rubbish romcom Always Be My Maybe. Just skip forward an hour or so to his bit.
