Matrix IV

I watched the 4th one only because it happened to be available on a long haul flight. It was as terrible as the second and third ones. I definitely won't be bothering with whatever the next incarnation of the story is. They should've just left it after the first one. The ending (and the imagined aftermath) would've cemented it as one of the most iconic movies of the 20th century. It still is, but it's tainted by the others.
I always thought the second and third should have been one three hour movie set as the third and the sequel (second film) should have been a origin story leading up to the first film.

So,

The Matrix - finding the chosen one
The Matrix 2 - how it came about and the start of the chosen one search (think Rogue One)
The Matrix 3 - the conclusion of the Neo arc and resolution of the war

Then use other media such as games/ comics and even tv shows to flesh out the main universe in support of the three films.

5 is likely to be awful, well into the law of diminishing returns. Only way it might work is as an origins story or as simply ' in the matrix universe' with just tenuous connections to Neo et al.

Which is actually pretty boring and done to death now in so many different ways. Yes the matrix might have been the OG and paved the way for two decades many films, TV shows and computer games, but that doesn't make it any less stale.

Yeah four was so bad I can’t see five being any better. I wonder if Keanu will actually return?

The Matrix had a perfect ending, and even if the sequels were written/ directed by the creators of the original film, it is just a cynical cash-in exercise. In my mind the story has always ended with the original film. Fuck the others.
If Man United are ever ahead at half time, I tend to have a similar attitude.
