Magic makes you an Olympian - which sport would you want to compete in?

Lord Camomile

Yipchaa!
A magic genie/fairy/spoon grants you the skill and athleticism to compete at an Olympic level in one sport: what're you picking?

Football is my main sporting love, so that'd be the obvious one, but that's boring.

Quite like the idea of something like triathlon or track sprinting, so I could do individual and relay events. Triathlon you'd also be outdoors, and have an all round athleticism which I always tend to prefer of specialisation. Plus it seems relatively down to earth (though maybe I'm basing that too much on the Browlees  :D ).

E2A: gymnastics also an option, as I like jumping around, though not sure I'd be as keen on the surrounding setting/atmosphere.

Trampolining it seems like as close to flying without an aeroplane as anyone can get.

(or tennis cos even though its boring if you were that good you could then play on the tour and make millions in a couple of years so never have to work again)

Olympic standard table tennis would make me quite the rarity here (as opposed to ten a penny local champs) and get you invited to all sorts.

If I could also have the bestest horse - competing in three-day eventing would be a fantastic adventure.

For good all-round athletics, maybe decathlon or modern pentathlon ...

400m I think, or maybe 800m. Something where I run pretty fast but not super fast.

I fancy racing round one lap of the track as fast as I can

If magic gave the skills and athleticism to take part in the Olympics I would have to fight the urge to don a costume and become a superhero/supervillain with a 50/50 chance either way

The younger me who was a bit of an athlete , would have done the 800m/1500m .

If Olympic magic dust fell upon me now, I'd multisport the fuck out of it and win boxing golds, rowing golds , kayaking golds & table tennis golds

First love is road cycling but that's a long season and time-consuming so the 100 metres running would be good.
Get a gold medal with just over 9 seconds of effort.
None of the relays or 200 metres, just the one gold is enough to rake in the endorsements.

At the moment, I'm a very average long distance runner. Hate road marathons, but I'd like to be an Olympic standard marathon runner, so I could then bin off the Olympics and go run some really interesting ultra marathons all over the world instead.

Loads I'd really like... Road/MTB... Skateboard, climbing (although only if it comes with no vertigo).

Dressage, but only if I can combine it with Judo. For protest antics.

No question: Blue Riband events: Men's 800m and 1500 double up.

Both won through negative splits, coming off the final bend to take the field...

Bit like Dave Wottle..

I'll take shooting -

1) it could come in handy when the zombie apocalypse or whatever arrives
2) it would arouse less suspicion for me to be competing in my 40s
3) I'd be worried that there was some monkey's paw-type catch to this magic deal and if I chose something like gymnastics or sprinting, the spell would wear off and my shattered body would collapse as soon as I collected the gold medal

Heavyweight boxing. You'd have a good chance of going pro and making a fortune.

pragmatically this is my choice

but Decathlon. Where you are super fit and pretty good at loads of shit and the physique is the best as it covers strength/power/speed gotta be rangy and muscley

My best mate missed out on selection for shooting this time around although he is still in the running for the next world championship. So shooting would be a good crack for me just to have bragging rights for a fortnight.
Though track cycling would also be a draw for me. Knowing how hard time trials are from my youthful experience I would cherish the chance at the sheer brutality of full on track sprints.
