Lunch should have its own thread

Neither of us ate yesterday due to feeling a bit unwell so when OH wakes up I'm going to heat some tortellini (I think it is stuffed with mushrooms) and stir in some green pesto from a jar, bit of parmesan on top, bit of baguette with butter on the side. Might have some salad too, I'm feeling pretty hungry.

Bit of baguette with hoummus and tzatziki (both store bought, we have an independent supermarket that does excellent versions)

Takeaway burger and chips. Burger had cheese, onion rings, caramelised onion, house Mayo, lettuce and silverskin onion, plus I inherited some bacon and chillies from my wife’s plate which got chucked onto it too.

Went to the canteen, didn't fancy the main so can a jacket with cheese and beans. It was epically large. I need a doze now.

One of the worst things about not working is the lack of subsidised work canteens - a lot of big office buildings I've worked you could rely on a roast on Thursdays, Fish & Chips on Fridays, and a range of other fairly substantial meals at decent prices.

One place I worked had a particularly good breakfast buffet, I'd arrive early one day a week just to avail myself of a cheap and tasty Full English :D

Its not subsidised sadly as its shared office spaces were in. Its not terribly priced, but not super cheap, so I only go when I'm lazy and haven't made lunch.

Worked for Nationwide almost two decades ago and theirs was super cheap. God I could do with that here!

I've been lucky enough to take advantage of some really good work canteens over the years - even as far back as when I had a Saturday/evening job at a big branch of Sainsbury's, their canteen I think used up produce that was on the verge and a lot of it was quite tomato based, but it was very cheap hearty fare and I still have very fond memories of their sausage and tomato casserole which was phenomenal and you got a massive portion with mash or rice for a few pence.

Canteens in Civil Service buildings always tended to be quite good but it varied a lot - one of the biggest buildings I worked in only had a small kitchen run by a one-woman outfit - it was jacket spuds, salads, omelettes, tortilla, sausage/bacon/egg sarnies rather than a full main meal menu, but she liked me and I always got massive portions. One of the best places was in a shared building and served a lot of very good Jamaican food.

OH has worked as a kitchen assistant/porter in a few work canteens (back before COVID meant people were wfh and canteens were shut) - one particular large company he worked for from time to time had a canteen that provided meals for staff that were Michelin star restaurant type quality and presentation - he'd send me photos of the meals he got during his break and it was well posh :D

Baked potato with tuna, sweetcorn & mayonnaise. Toffee fudge doughnut. Mug of tea.

Out of date cheese and onion sarnie from Budgens. Filling was fine but the bread was a bit dry. Chocolate Madeleine and a cuppa.
