The overall consensus is that this white garlic isn’t Portuguese it’s Spanish and that the Portuguese ‘red’ garlic is far better ( it’s sort of purpled veined actually) . So perhaps not the bargain I thought it was .

Yeah we get both white and purple here, I personally prefer the purple but the white garlic seems to keep better (so is not a bad choice for buying in bulk). If you are worried you got a bad deal I can show you some eyewatering supermarket prices here that should make you feel better

OH has tonight off work, so he slept for a bit this morning then got up at lunchtime and we went shopping and to the bank in Stratford - needed stuff like t-shirts, ended up with t-shirts, chocolates, saffron in a cute little bottle, new headphones for OH, and hot sauce, as you do.

Anyhow, we stopped at The Real Greek to have lunch - their lunch menu options for £7.95 are really quite generous and great value for money! I had the Lamb meatball platter which had a decent portion of meatballs in a rich tomato sauce, saffron rice, Greek salad, tzatziki and bread.

OH opted for the more expensive meze part of the menu and got a very spicy feta and chilli dip and some chargrilled octopus on yellow lentils which was absolutely lush.

We don't eat out often, so it was a real treat. I saw the calamari on another table and have to have that at some point, it looked really good.

Dear god these and noodles make the best lunches. Throw anything else in that's lying around and it's all good. I often go quite fancy in what I put in, but today was just some old spring greens and egg noodles with extra chilli and soy.
