Lunch should have its own thread

well i've just had "pre-lunch". a pear and a large carrot. gonna have a cup of coffee and then embark on "actual lunch", which will be minestrone soup, activia yogurt (strawberry) and maybe an apple. i'm craving loads of veg at the mo - just bought up half of co-op salad aisle for a mackerel salad for dinner - the baby must be gagging for vitamins or summat :)

I had a really big salad of leaf, baby cucumber, cherry tomatoes, orange pepper, spring onion and ham.

My colleague had a massive bowl of couscous at work so I had a try of that too. I'm still hungry though

I’m on 2 day training course & lunch is provided! Can not recall last time that happened as I work in the NHS.

It was only basic sarnies, crisps, fruit kebabs & cake (I didn’t have cake). Same again tomorrow most likely.

Leftover brown rice, warmed up, with chopped anchovy fillets mixed in and a quartered hard-boiled egg on top. Bit of scotch bonnet sauce on top. Fucking gorgeous! It was one of those make-do lunches, that you think are so good that they're worth making again.

That sounds positively lush! I love brown rice, haven't had it in ages, due to tyranny of relationships

I had granola cos I'm going out to eat tonight and I want to be STARVING

Oh god it really was. I'm gonna make it again next week. I was put off brown rice for years, cos for some reason I thought it would have a nasty rough husk bit on it, and then when I finally had it, I became instantly addicted to it. It's one of the nicest things I've ever put in my mouth. I won't touch white rice now.

A salad that we sometimes have when I can be arsed: bulgur wheat, feta, fresh mint, oregano and parsley, artichokes, black olives, dried chillis, green things like leaves and maybe peas and a tahini/garlic/lemon dressing.

Since I appear to have quite serious anaemia (for non-dietary reasons), I have brought forward my planned descent into dolphinescence and will be necking canned sardines and mackerel for the next few weeks at least - along with popeye's favourite green veggie, broccoli, seaweed, miso, tofu .. and anything else that sticks to a magnet.
I may stop cleaning the rust off my wok... :hmm:

Poor you. If you can find a non-coated cast iron pan, use that for cooking - you absorb some of the iron. Or get an iron fish. And make sure you're getting plenty of vitamin C which enables the absorption of iron. And spinach is not as high in iron as was once thought, so you'll have to eat a lot of it, raw :)

Thanks :)
i think I'll definitely let my wok get rusty more often.

Ironically I live in a very irony area geologically - my pushbike is always covered with red soil - and I used to collect iron ore nodules.

Badly made buckwheat crepes, a spicy beanburger, hummus, chutney, avocado, iron tablet.
Washed down with pink grapefruit juice.

Lunch 1 was a half wrap thing with chicken and roasted veg and pesto from M&S. Lunch 2 was a small brocoli, pea, spinach, quinuoa and humous pot thing from M&S with 2 rice cakes. Snacks before and after lunch, so erm...starter(s) and desert(s) - an apple & several Roses chocolates (but the crap ones no one else wants  )

Baby spuds,
head of broccoli,
can of sardines in tomato sauce,
can of cold baked beans,
good handful of mixed seaweed flakes.
iron tablet,
pink grapefruit juice.

Struggling to resist the allure of a couple of apple and blackcurrant pies with soya dessert.
