London mayor What has he done??

Take it up with the Met then rather than blaming him.

When prominent politicos bike they are usually followed by a security team, Boris was for certain and I believe even Mr Corbyn had a team following him when he was cycling around.
For absolute certainty, David Cameron did

With PaDP officers following in an armoured vehicle.
I used to work very close to where he was living when he was mayor. As far as I could tell he got picked up by some sort of convoy of heavies in the morning with his bike slung in the back and then cycled home in the evening. I never noticed an escort on the way home and considering I was generally standing in the street with a spliff hanging out of my mouth imploring him to ride under a bus you'd think they might have noticed me.

I only saw him on his bike once and there was a people carrier following filled with filth, they didn't seem to mind when I shouted Wanker at him, nor when the person 10 metres further down the road did the same, then another 10m and so on...

Some of the abuse that Diane Abbott has had must be very frightening for her, does she have the same level of protection?
I've read through a week's worth of it (DA showed me), and it is utterly disgusting, horrifying, and, yes, frightening for her, but she's actually mentally quite resilient (she has had to be, to survive), so she just shrugs it off by now. I am certain it would make you feel physically sick - it did me.
And no, she doesn't get similar protection, though she got some when shadow Home Sec

He could be driven in a zero emissions electric, bullet proof, armoured Tesla model X that costs a fraction of the 5 litre luxury Range Rover gas guzzling, mega emissions £300k equivalent to a tank for safety.
Not made in the uk and only armoured against handguns . So a couple of grenades and a burst of ak47 brought from Boris in Ukraine would leave it a toxic mess.
What ever he travelled in would upset someone.

It's always interesting to note how much attention Khan gets from people who don't live in London. There does seem to be a solid core of people who are unhealthily bothered about him given he's just a mayor in a city they don't live or pay taxes in and don't get a vote in. I know you could say the same about Trump but its a stretch to compare the office of US president with a mayor who has very limited powers.

For such a dull and low profile politician he sure does occupy a lot of people's thinking time..

Yup - he sums up everything they distrust and dislike about London, I guess

I don't have much time for Khan but I wonder what people expect from a position that has such limited powers. Beyond transport and policing there isn't a huge amount anyone could really do. Also bearing in mind the met is a law unto itself I bet that's like running into a brick wall.

With housing the situation is essentially privatised. If house builders don't think there is enough money it it for them they won't build. All this red tape stuff is largely a red herring and usually involves building on greenbelt which is not relevant to London. We're already seeing house builders pull out of the London market because they are not getting the returns they once were. What can a mayor do in isolation from national governments and local authorities?

Not that Khan isn't shit. He is. But what powers to make a real change does a mayor have in isolation?
