That sounds like a good plan - you seemed to really like Nazare and the Atlantic.
 
Anyone wanting to leave the rat race and join Stan's bohemian itinerant artist lifestyle need do no more than book a flight with jet2.com to Faro for just £25.
 
Just back from living off the Croft in Bettyhill. Can someone give me an update? Has he perished yet? Is his foot any better? Has he flounced?

I've only seen the last few pages of this, linked from the online aggression thing, so I don't know what kicked it off on this particular thread. But that's the point, it didn't kick off from something on this particular thread, it's ongoing.

I don't follow Stan's adventures. Maybe he gets something out of these exchanges. But that doesn't add up to having to wade in, page after page. I'm sure Stan's said things in the past - I'm not defending him, he can defend himself. But what is the motivation for those who follow him round? It's surely not about correcting some horror he has inflicted on the boards is it? People actually get something out of it. Which isn't all that great is it? FFS, if somebody comes out with something that's objectionable, deal with it, but this is something else.

[And for clarity, I only replied to you because of the phrase I quoted. I'm on about the general phenomena]

I'm not sure resurrecting this particular thread is the best way to make this point.

Also, if you don't know what kicked off things off on this thread, go and read it or don't comment on it. Stating 'I don't know what kicked it off' isn't particularly helpful. Do people follow Stan round the boards? I don't. I've commented on some of his threads over the years but I certainly don't wait for his next thread merely to stick the boot in.

His views about women amongst other groups are well documented. So is his hurling abuse at posters when he feels like it.

Well, yes, you are certainly right on the first point. I hadn't seen that the thread has been dormant for a few weeks when I posted.

Yes, I know Stan has said things about women before and I've responded. Ditto the barging a disabled woman over - from memory I responded quite vigorously. But this is 114 pages. It's a rolling programme. It isn't about correcting some particular point, some offensive post. Posters get something out of it, no doubt Stan does too. But let's not pretend this is some high minded issue of principle.

I'm not pretending anything. What I take issue with is Stan being painted as some blameless innocent (not saying you're doing that) and urban just piled in for the lol.

Well, fwiw, I think some of the things he's said about women deserve some serious stick (and indeed have received it). It's the spillover I object to, the rolling multi thread thing where people feel they can make comments about every bit of his life. I'm not 'riding to his rescue' and to some extent he invites comments, by telling us so much. It's just that we don't have to get involved.

People comment on what's in any post. If that post contains something at odds with something previously posted (e.g. The stuff about the disabled woman), people are going to query it. If poor behaviour is taken responsibility for, and apologised for, people tend to move on. If not, there is often persistence.

the issue is not Stan's character but the mob's delight in jumping all over him.
I don't think anyone is painting him as blameless. To say that people are is to dishonestly attempt to shift the focus to avoid addressing the actual issue

I can't speak for anybody else, but I take no delight in being exposed to Stanley Edwards. I wish he would fuck off and I never had to notice him ever again.

Besides, this is my online home. If I'm going to share it with violent repeat offenders, I'm not just going to ignore that fact.

That's not really the case with SE because he's not really super-active on threads he doesn't start himself. I had him on ignore for ages and it was just like he wasn't there; no gaps in threads, no confusion. Pretty much exactly what you say you wish for. Try it.
