Zen connection over BT
The realities of a lot of rural connections. Luckily a B4RN fibre scheme is on the cards.no wonder you didn’t post the picture.
This is on my iPad, connected via 2.4Ghz wifi to a fibre optic broadband modem which we pay for 100Mbps/100Mbps service.
It’s always slow, but I don’t know if it’s the wifi, the modem or the fibre. Any tips on how to fault find / complain effectively to provider, to get closer to the speed we pay for? Also, how much of that 100/100 speed can you really access via 2.4Ghz wifi, or do we need a 5Ghz wifi router?
Did you get hold of one in the end? I probably have some of the Huawei HG612 ones knocking around (you can still use other ones with Huawei DSLAMs, they just don't all support G.INP).Looks like I need to get hold of an Openreach modem to do it properly, so that's next, but you can only get them second hand it seems if your broadband supplier doesn't give you one and most vendors don't sell them to the public. Plus it looks like I need a specific Huawei one to match the equipment in the cab.
Depends on your service (I believe you're not in the UK so may be different where you are) but I set up a PPPoE connection on a laptop with a 1Gbps ethernet port using the broadband username and password, disconnect the router and connect the laptop directly to the fibre ONT. Then test speed, ideally using your ISP's own speed test site if they have one.Any tips on how to fault find / complain effectively to provider, to get closer to the speed we pay for?
