Let's see your broadband speed (2018-2020 edition)

100MBPS Virgin cable, Bristol.
Speed probably limited by 10/100 network adaptor and the world's shittest cat5.
I don't know what's happened to the WIFI connection on my phone, I got 105MBPS last time I checked ...
Recent new modem means dropouts are few and far between, but I will be looking for a cheaper provider this year as I only need half this speed.

Rather disappointed by this, but I'm using my phone, there's another phone, two iPads and a laptop connected. And the firestick is in use.

This is on my iPad, connected via 2.4Ghz wifi to a fibre optic broadband modem which we pay for 100Mbps/100Mbps service.

It’s always slow, but I don’t know if it’s the wifi, the modem or the fibre. Any tips on how to fault find / complain effectively to provider, to get closer to the speed we pay for? Also, how much of that 100/100 speed can you really access via 2.4Ghz wifi, or do we need a 5Ghz wifi router?

Some fast Internet here!

The first thing to test I'd try is skipping the wifi and connecting to the router with a cable. If that gives the true speed, it's the wifi. Is you WiFi very congested? Can you see many other access points when you connect? Do you have many devices connecting to it? Assuming you're router is using WiFi N it should be more then capable of doing 100 Mbs over WiFi. If it is very congested, you could download a WiFi analizer app and try changing the Chanel. But I definitely start with a cable.

Looks like I need to get hold of an Openreach modem to do it properly, so that's next, but you can only get them second hand it seems if your broadband supplier doesn't give you one and most vendors don't sell them to the public. Plus it looks like I need a specific Huawei one to match the equipment in the cab.
Did you get hold of one in the end? I probably have some of the Huawei HG612 ones knocking around (you can still use other ones with Huawei DSLAMs, they just don't all support G.INP).

Depends on your service (I believe you're not in the UK so may be different where you are) but I set up a PPPoE connection on a laptop with a 1Gbps ethernet port using the broadband username and password, disconnect the router and connect the laptop directly to the fibre ONT. Then test speed, ideally using your ISP's own speed test site if they have one.

If in UK, Openreach insist this is done with a Windows machine in safe mode with networking before they'll raise a fault.

I've just moved house and realised I could get fibre to premises, so it would have been wrong not to.
It's just under a gig on ethernet, and I'm about 60 foot from the router now on WiFi in the garden, with a beer and celebratory joint.

It's a far cry from the 6 meg I used to get at my last place. It's quite smile inducing... Or that could be the joint.

Zen - all working nicely now :) Not fucking bad I have to say for the arse end of Cornwall with fibre to the box up the road and copper for the last half mile.
