Keir Starmer's time is up

There is no inanity you can't be driven to by simply taking focus group results at face value. Look at John Major and the cones hotline.

You experience it on the doorstep too. To listen to people on the doorstep you'd think all people care about is bin collection times, speed bumps and parking. In reality those are just the annoyances closest to the top of their minds if you ask people what's bothering them. Only a plum doesn't dig deeper.

They're popping up all over. I can think of at least two in Ipswich alone. But they're definitely a signal of problems in the commercial rental market more than a particular scourge, the weird thing is that these obviously shady "businesses" are using hot pink and candy as a frontage.

It's called austerity and it's baked in to the next labour government

High Streets are fucked all over, betting shops (ban those pls) acres of male and female hairdressers/tanning salons and a crap Tesco express and myriad nasty takeaways tends to be the pattern

We should have a thread on it

Labour plots ‘watertight’ alternative to Rwanda migrant plan
He’s a fucking idiot, choosing to fight the tories on their home turf on an issue mostly cunts that would never vote for him give a fuck about.

There’s a massive long list of government failures to pick a fight about, but no, he has to go with the agenda they choose.

Is there fucking no one on the opposition benches willing to put the boot in on this mediocre incapable shambles of an administration? They might as well not fucking be there. It’s enraging.

The scam is simple. Leaseholders are responsible for business rates for shops. This responsibility passes to the ultimate lessee and so you rent the shop to a shell company who builds up massive business rates arrears and then liquidates. Repeat.

Sure, the bit I don't get is why they're being so loud about it. Seems designed to get people to notice, which draws media attention, which draws political and then police attention.

But what's the point? Isn't it easier to avoid business rates by simply not leasing a shop you have no real use for in the first place?

So his solution is Tanzania? But this would be even more expensive (unless i've misunderstood his genius) since those succesfully applying would then be flown back to live here. How will there be oversight? People will still have to come here (ie small boats) in order to be so processed. He's such a fucking twatclock

your problem is that you are lookin for a workable solution, this is not what is happening there. hth

It should be about mobilising the core vote, not desperately trying to chip away a few more voters from the reactionary end of the Tory party.
Suspect Labour will win the election, but on a low turnout and fewer people will actually vote for Starmer than voted for Corbyn.

If it’s empty you get no rent and have to pay rates. If you rent the shop to a ltd company that doesn’t bother selling any thing and dodges the rates you are quids in.

No surprise to learn that Starmer is just following in Blair's footsteps here

Tony Blair urged 'radical' measures to cut asylum, archive papers reveal

A detention camp on the Isle of Mull and breaking international law were among measures on migration presented to Tony Blair while prime minister, according to newly released files. Papers from 2003, released by the National Archives, show Mr Blair was increasingly frustrated by the failure to deter people from coming to the UK. He had called for more "radical" ideas. Other suggestions presented to him included safe havens overseas for those whose asylum claims were rejected.
In a paper entitled "Asylum: the nuclear option", advisers even questioned whether the UK needed an asylum system at all, because refugees would already have passed through a safe country before reaching Britain's shores. Some of the ideas discussed in "brainstorming" sessions have strong parallels with the policies of the current government, though the most controversial measures were never enacted by the Labour administration.

similar murmurings from McTernan not so long ago, well, lads, you broke it you buy it. Happy quiffmas to all who celebrate
