Kamala Harris' time is up

Well I'm not detaining you, if you have somewhere else you'd rather be.

You do rather seem to be interpreting everything I say rather strangely. I accept that you don't know me as I'm very new here and still finding my feet but it would be nice if you stopped trying to trip me up with every post, because it's beginning to feel a teeny bit that way.

... and I'm sorry, I do keep forgetting that this is a thread about Kamala Harris - not Trump, so perhaps it might be better if I confine my comments about Trump to a more appropriate thread, of which there appear to be several.

Neutral smiley face >>> :)
there is a tendency on urban to argue along 'no because ...' lines when 'yes but...' might be less stressful.

He'd definitely be in trouble in November but I think he'd still be the Democratic nominee if he hadn't walked into a trap and challenged Trump to a debate much earlier than presidential debates are usually held
Fair point. But it was his own failing faculties that were his problem in that debate, not the killer points from Trump.

I don't think Biden has dementia fwiw, but he does clearly have frontal lobe damage, which is entirely unsurprising for a person in their 80s. It's a part of 'healthy aging'.

Specifically, aging of the PFC [prefrontal cortex] results in deficient aspects of cognitive control, including sustained attention, selective attention, inhibitory control, working memory, and multitasking abilities.
Aging of the frontal lobe - PubMed

This is something I've certainly noticed happening over recent years with my mum, who also does not have dementia, but is very certainly aging.

The upside to talking bollocks is that it gets shared and cuts through, like all this falling out of a coconut tree business, which seems to be working out quite well for Harris, who is a very bright and successful lawyer deploying slightly deranged home-spun apple pie wisdom with smart and justifiable cynicism. Playing the role of a president in a Netflix disaster movie is paying dividends for her.

seen some stuff (and a post on here) accusing Harris of being "stupid" - and only getting to where she is cos shes a women and a person of colour (cos they obviously get all the top jobs cos of woke) . But a five second glance at her wikipedia page tells us shes rose to the top of the legal profesion - DA for San Francisco then AG for California before becoming a senator - dont think you can blag those sort of roles. And all the footage ive seen of her clearly demosntrates she is highly intelligent and articulate. Its amazing how prejudice utterly blinds some people.

Tldr?

Not only will she be targeted on the border and economy, but it looks like birtherism is back, sexism will play a significant part, oh and a particular focus on how she laughs.

That's right - her laughter is a cause of concern with the far right.

Has that composite image been shown on urban of the dozens of exclusively white male and female Fox employees that seem to be suggesting that Harris got where she is because of her colour?

:D
I've certainly seen that image somewhere but I can't recall whether it was on here or elsewhere.

she did the sleeve notes for a Wedding Present album is about all I can remember.

Richard Burgen is very vocal in his love of metal, a regular at Download. So it couldn't be him,
he sued one of the sun for going 'ooh look at the nazi font his band uses' in 2017.

I think Trump is very much like Forrest Gump: an idiot who's been dealt a good hand in life. The successes that Trump has achieved (e.g. winning the electoral college in 2020, taking over the GOP) are the product of what Trump lacks (e.g. self-awareness, humilty, honesty, dignity, integrity, open-mindedness, curiosity, honour, respect, impulse control). That he begiles large rooms of people doesn't show he's smart in my view, just that his audience are also idiots. He's the one-eyed king in the land of the blind.

I don't think there's any doubt that Trump is or has been a regular user of the N-word - I wouldn't be surprised if it was his first word - but I think if somebody who didn't want him to be president had a damning recording it would have been released by now

He used it on the Apprentice - Donald Trump Again Accused of Using N-Word on 'The Apprentice' Set

In an interview with the producer Bill Priott:
Pruitt recalled a conversation on the precipice of the season finale, where Jackson and Bill Rancic were the last remaining contestants. Weighing each candidate with other members of the Trump Organization, Trump clearly favorited Rancic, Pruitt wrote, while other Trump employees lobbied for Jackson. “Yeah,” Pruitt claims Trump said, “but, I mean, would America buy a n—– winning?”

If he can use the word so casually on camera and in front of numerous people, then I'm quessing it wasn't the first or the last time he used it.

The problem with assessing someone's intelligence, is that it doesn't really exist, certainly not as a single measurable characteristic.
certainly not by a numeric number - but id say the abiltiy to articualte and deploy concepts and ideas, to utilise your knowledge in decision making, problem solving and analysis, to display insight, self awareneess and an undestanding of other people all kind of come under the heading of "intelligence" . From what ive seen harris demonstrates all of those abilites to a fairly high degree - whilst trump is the precise opposite. What trump does have is pathogical self belief and entitlement with little or no emotional filter - to the point that it almost bends reality around him - it does make him a pretty unique individual. uniquely fucking horrble.

There was a very good op ed piece by Hilary Clinton in the NYTimes a couple of days ago (it's behind a paywall but the gist of it is here - Hillary Clinton urges Americans to rally around Kamala Harris: ‘a fresh start’ - where she points to all the likely angles of attack Harris, as both a woman and a black woman, will be subjected to, based on her own experiences. It's an excellent, spot-on and sobering read. This point is particularly important:

“Harris and the campaign will have to cut through the noise, and all of us as voters must be thoughtful about what we read, believe and share,” Clinton wrote.

There’s no reason to take this argument to extremes. Trump has some good tricks for dominating meetings and bullying one-on-one. These tricks transfer surprisingly well to rallies and debates. He’s also prone to dropping the ball and veering off into metaphors that don’t work at all, then poor at returning to the point. Which is not surprising for a man of his age who is doing gigs that require plenty of stamina, but also might suggest that some of the neural connections are beginning to misfire in ways that are associated with dementia.
Agreed. Basically, Trump gives good rant. But he's too self-aggrandising, too repetitive, he stops and starts too much and has too many incomplete/half sentences, because he goes off on too many tangents, ie verbal brain farts. And he's just plain mean and nasty about other people, he doesn't just stick to criticising policies/ideology, he makes it too personal.

In case you feel I'm just casually bandying around unacceptable terminology please note that the dictionary appears to consider that the primary definition of the term is the context in which I used it.

I do not and never have used either of the other terms you have mentioned.

That could also be used to justify use of the R-word, which is also ableist and unacceptable.

part of that is why he's good at intimidating oppo though- he's got the bully's knack with rude nicknames and personal mockery (was it de santis he mocked for being short). I don't recon hes got a second term in him now, we'll see because my predictions are often wrong.

Wait, what!? She was in a disaster movie? Which one. I missed that. (I love cheesy disaster movies.)

I don't write dictionaries and I don't use the R word either.

I have however noted that there have been frequent instances on this forum (and elsewhere) of the words "moron", "idiot" and "imbecile" being applied to Trump (and to those who support him) by others as well as me (in case you think I am absolving myself). All of these terms were used in the past in clinical settings to describe degrees of mental impairment but nowadays are instead used informally to describe perceived generalised stupidity.

Setting aside the inappropriateness of past practices because I suspect you would agree that using such words now in a clinical environment would be wholly unacceptable... but these terms now form part of contemporary everyday language, so would it be your intention to make a similar comment to everyone who uses any of these unacceptable words from now on?

Sorry, I just mean that Harris is exactly the sort of president who would pop up occasionally in a mid-2020s written-to-order Netflix drama, reassuring the world that we will rebuild after the asteroid strikes, or dancing with the tearful children orphaned by killer wasps. She’s absolutely from central casting and I assume it’s taken lots of cold calculation to get there.

Disappointed there's no movie for me to watch. 10/10 would watch that movie. 😁

If you’ve typed this on the same device you watch Netflix on, the algorithm will generate the script, and find nauseating moppet child stars, and a wasp wrangler, and a plausible Kamala lookalike, and bombard you with recommendations to watch the wretched thing by teatime.

Trump unsurprisingly now labelling Harris a left-wing extremist. We'll hear a lot more of that and a lot more about the cost of living crisis.

The COLC is surely the current regime's biggest vulnerability.

That’s like his fifth attack line in as many days…clearly panicked and clueless on how to tackle her.
