Job changes / OU degree

RubyBlue

faded and jaded
I'm a third of the way through a Psychology degree which my company have been paying for (even though it doesn't directly benefit them) they have now said they will no longer continue to finance it but instead want me to do a finance course with the expectation that I will become a financial analyst (promotion) in a new role I'm already being trained for anyway. My query is - am I capable? can I do it? Should I do it? What about my Psychology course? Can I carry 2 courses at the same time? I'm scared but excited at the same time - I feel my employer has more faith in me then I have :) eta: I actually enjoy the finance work that I've been doing - it's all new to me but it's not a direction I ever thought I'd take - I never thought I could do this sort of thing - but at the same time if I said no they would cut off the finance for my Psychology course and assume I have no interest in furthering my career in the direction they want :(

If they're paying for it, they're entitled to have a say in what course you take unless it was part of the terms of employment/agreed at job review etc they'd finance the psych degree. But since it's OU, can you not slow down your psych degree (self-financing) and agree a slower road on the finance degree with your employers (financing it) so you could do both together without actually doubling the study load?

I should also have mentioned that although they've been paying for my psych course it's been for my benefit and I knew I was lucky they agreed to pay so I have no objection that they are going to discontinue it - indeed, I'm lucky that they want to continue to finance me but in the direction they want - I would like to do this and can't turn it down but would hate to give up the psych course - just trying to find ways around it I guess - you have provided an idea :) eta: I'm happy to continue payment for the psych degree but am I taking on to much? I'm not really that bright that I can do everything in one go :(
