Jay & Silent Bob Reboot

Hypothetical Wanker
Just watched the first 20 minutes on Netflix.

It's a curious bird. I can't tell whether it's genius or the worst film ever. Quite possibly both at the same time.

The title of your thread made me pull an uncomfortable face. Thank you for submitting yourself to this. Please let us know how you get on.

It's the perfect film for the so-called "long 90s". Anybody who thinks Labour can win by repeating 1997 should be forced to watch this film.

Kevin Smith just can't let anything go. I enjoyed Clerks, but just move the fuck on.

Just seen there's a Clerks III in pre-production.

An hour and a quarter in and I'm very much veering towards worst film ever.

...though there is a certain genius in how it thrusts our ageing in our faces.

This thread made me think "what was the name of that other film director who should have been left behind in the 1990s?" and now I've remembered that Richard Linklater exists.

I did enjoy their “Strikes Back” film (while drunk) - especially the scene where they go round to the houses of everyone who abused them on line just to punch them in the face. Childish but very satisfying 🙂

It's shite. He's permanently stoned these days, so he doesn't give a shit what anybody thinks of his increasingly woeful films. He thinks they are all great.

However, I'll always have a soft spot for him because through him we have the Tell'Em Steve Dave podcast.

It's absolute rubbihsh. Amateurish cheap trash. Not in a good way.
It made me question all of Smiths output. . . conclusion. . . he got lucky with Clerks. Clerks isn't actually a great film but it has charm and was something different at the time. After Clerks he had big money to make his crap ideas at least look like proper films. . . but they were college kid nonsense. I actually liked Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back but after seeing everything else Smith has done, I am not sure how he accomplished it. Is it a fluke? Did someone else carry him? His recent films look bad, they are loose and cheap and you can smell the desperation. They are not cute low budget films made with love. They are badly scripted, badly filmed, straight to video knock offs.
Not seen Red State or Cop Out.
