james whale; i was on his radio show

Tony Slattery used to just turn up and sit with Mansfeild didn't he. Just sat there, made some faces, then fucked off.

It all seemed to make some sort of sense at the time.

Caesar was great in his Kiss 100 days as well. Used to do a show from about 3 until 6 in the morning. Fantastic phone-ins & wind ups & never took himself too seriously.

Was replaced by a guy called Lindsay Wesker (?) who i believe got into trouble after he let a particularly fruity caller describe (on-air) her dog licking its food off her privates

I would agree with a previous poster that Tommy Boyd is *the man* though. His afternoon shows on Talk Radio were in a class of their own. Remember the "wonderful hour" on a Friday afternoon? Just the thing to cheer you up for the weekend, and often very emotional. And his re-enactment of "Titanic" with callers playing different parts was cool as well.

IIRC late night ITV used to be quite good thing in those days

i'd point you in the direction of my night network/4later threads, but they are in the twilight zone :(

can you remember that music/chat programme presented by rhona cameron in a 'cafe'? i'm sure i didn't imagine it. saw blaggers ita interviewed (if you could called cameron expressing zero interest and shoehorning in shit jokes 'interviewing') on it.

TalkSport sacked Tommy Boyd after he let a caller ring up on the night of the Queen Mothers death and rant on about what an old witch she was, it was a pretty shocking call, even by a Republicans standard

That rings a dim and distant bell...I remember there was something called 'World Cafe', but I'm not sure she was on that. Might it have been one of the regular features on 'The Big E'?

definitely a different prog - i think after the 1st and 2nd wave of latenight itv progs ('pillow talk' and then 'the new music' & 'the big e'), probably more around the time of 'passengers' (the original doc strand rather than the zoo format show)

I think that was filmed at the Warehouse in Leeds IIRC

it really wasn't that bad iirc; the caller swore, was cut off, but boyd (and his producer) failed to use the delay button, which meant that the swear word was broadcast.

I miss him :(

I done 'im up once, rang in pretending to be an old man called Albert and went on about discovering my neighbours' kids playing in my back garden, but instead of giving in to my initial urge to reprimand and 'hit them all', I instead joined them for an impromptu game of footy. "Oh Albert", Tommy gushed, "Instead, you joined in. What a lovely story". Then I got bizarre and was consequently cut off, so a week later I found myself poncing around London with nothing to do and decided to breeze into the TalkFM offices and humbly request a signed Tommy Boyd photo. I offered £15 for the service, and told the receptionist that it was all arranged. "I've got the money, just like he asked when we went off air." I caused quite a stink when I was told there was no signed photo waiting for me. "I've come all the way up from Portsmouth with fifteen notes and that cunt Boyd has done me up! He promised - £15 for a signed photo" etc.

The next day I couldn't believe my luck - not only had the story spread around, but the breakfast DJs were laughing at him getting stitched up! Tommy came on air in the afternoon with a long, morose announcement that he had been the victim of a cruel prank, and that he NEVER asks for money for photographs. NEVER! I think he doth protest too much.

A mate of mine and myself once spent about three hours calling in with various ridiculous stories on the LBC breakfast show too. Eg. in response to 'ever found something unusual in a house you've moved into?' - 'yes - a dead horse in the attic. How did it get there? I don't know - perhaps it was lowered in' etc.

garry jacobs was a fine man. i did some student radio in my teens, as the straight man alongside a kid whose hero was caeser the geezer  and garry came in one day to do a show with us. he was an absolute star, definitely the best show we ever did, managing to not only be entertaining, get some good calls and interesting legal advice sent out, got a good discussion on the merits of direct action, but also led us in some attempts to prank call Eric Hall. which was fun.

another alumni of the same radio station was simon amstell. we took a loathing to each other from the word go (musical differences), and while that lucky cunt has no doubt forgotten i ever existed, my hatred is forced to continue everytime i am misfortunate enough to tune in to saturday morning tv or indeed pretty much anything on E4 it seems.

May I be the first to recommend his partner in TV Crimes Miquita Oliver also get a dig or two in the ribs, merely for association but also for similarly being a vacuous shithead?

This brainworm has come back with a vengeance for the first time in nine years, still can't find any trace of its name anywhere - not IMDb, Cameron's website, anywhere. But I did come across Cameron interviewing the Manic Street Preachers in a grainy video that looks like it could have been the same same, in a Cook'd & Bomb'd thread about, well, Awkward Interviews:
