Its been a while....Bestest Guitar Solo's???

Sweaty Betty

Hemo rising!
For me at the moment its....

gilmour - shine on you crazy...

moore - out in the fields

What gets you in the crotch???

Say what you like about Mark Knob-flour, the guitar solo's in 'Brothers in arms' make me want to cry cause they're so beautiful

The stumble by Peter Green, the whole song is one great solo, rip of from Fred E King, but moves it on some.

I love the voice box / guitar solo play off on G'n'R's anything goes too.

Zep's communication breakdown was the proto type best rock solo ever.

I think one of Hendrix's best solo's was his first on Hey Joe, not counting Voodoo Chile, which is all one long brilliant solo.

The best riff ever, is Howling Wolf's killing floor, but that's another thread.

And of course, Mr Bigg's "One who wants to be with you", love them Harmonics.;)

My current fave is "At Least That's What You Said" by Wilco.

Brilliant song - two brief, quiet, poignant verses and then a crunchy, exiting, swelling solo for the entire rest of the track.

 as fuck.

Oh - and here it is !

Fuck fret wanking, this is what a solo should be.

Some I'm particularly fond of:

Steely Dan - Kid Charlemagne
Nomeansno - Tired Of Waiting :D
PJ Harvey - 50 Ft Queenie - a few brief seconds of scorching noise

Some not strictly solos but;

Squire's Resurrection wank.
Brighton Rock - May
Another Brick in the Wall - Gilmore
Sultans of Swing - Why aye
Purple Rain - Prince
Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others - Marr

James Gurley's solo in Ball and Chain on Big Brother and the Holdings Company's Cheap Thrills. For me, it sounds like it's coming out of 100ft high speakers on an acid-soaked sunny afternoon in California

Jonny Greenwood's solo on Radiohead's "Just".

The Eagles - Hotel California

Seconded....

Again Jonny Greenwood, Maquiladora - Ideally the live version from the Astoria video late 90's.

Some of my faves...

Purple Rain - Prince
Nightrain -GNR (Slash)
Get The Funk Out - Extreme (Nuno Bettencourt)
Underdog (Save Me) - Turin Brakes
Beat It - Michael Jackson (Eddie Van Halen)
Steve Vai - For The Love Of God

Thats definitely one of my favourites too. Sounds like it could all just fall apart at any minute but they just manage to pull it off beautifully.

I also really love the solo in the crockets 'will you still care'- anthemic without being too widdly.

'super stupid' - funkadelic

'highway to hell'
'back in black'
'you shook me all night long'
- ac/dc and angus young

and the one i always say, 'my curse' by afghan whigs

i quite like the guitar solo in 'livin on a prayer' too
