This is trending trying to calm down tempers.
The other half of their responsibility is fake bank notes, as they are an off shoot of the Treasury, but probably there a cos other federal agencies were thin on the groundThe fuck is a Secret Service agent doing in a Minneapolis riot? Shouldn't he be like guarding the President or something? Or is he just a Walt?

But as for the "incurably diseased nation" Mation...I understand the emotion but this writes a lot of good people off.

For sure very moving and eloquent but 'It is your duty not to burn your own house' down he says. Go and sit in your home, strategise, do this via the voting booth he says. But people don't burn down their own house do they they. I know looting and smashing stuff up isn't the answer but if the people he's appealing to really felt a sense of ownership of the city the way he is saying they should then this wouldnt be even happening would it.
I don't believe you do.
i know that!"Your own house" isn't literal
Don’t be ridiculous. And don’t try and tell me what I think or feel.
The police were largely absent as anarchy ruled the streets. A police station car park was full of patrol cars with their lights turned on, but the rioters seemed to have free rein on the streets while we were there in the early hours of the morning.
George Floyd death: Chaos and rioting overshadows peaceful protesting in Minneapolis
One Minneapolis firm advertised that it was a 'black business', a plea to protesters not to loot or vandalise.news.sky.com
i know that!
Yeah I think he was talking about Atlanta this particular city, which I didn't really get on first listen. He did keep saying to just vote for better representatives as the concrete thing to do though which is, you know, always an option.Okay, apologies, but it's also not even literal in the sense of the ownership of the city surely?
I took it as being both about Atlanta in the wider sense of its place in history per Ruti's point above but also businesses owned by black people and in black neighbourhoods - dont be indiscrimate. He acknowledges that they want to burn things down and says he feels the same, but he's trying to get people to think in wider terms I reckon.
Di Martino’s cafe on Great Portland Street used to put out a sign every Mayday morning before the protests. “Family run business. Please don’t break our windows”, with arrows directing people to the nearest Starbucks and McDonalds. On a lighter note, re indiscriminate, there’s a nice video around of protestors changing course and yelling at everyone to make sure nobody does any damage to a branch of Waffle House.
Very articulate indeed:
There should be a list of these "loaded" words somewhere. I could quite easily refer to someone who speaks well as "articulate", regardless of the colour of their skin, and intend absolutely no racist overtones whatsoever.A bit like having one's reasoning and opinions being dismissed as 'emotional' as if it's only 'emotion' informing our opinions. Condescending as fuck.
Does there need to be? We seem to have got through its use upthread without drama, and you're now aware of how this one is sometimes used. All good, no? Or do you want to go down a "can't say anything without being jumped on route"? Cause we could probably do without that, tbh. There should be a list of these "loaded" words somewhere. Articulate is the word I use when I'm surprised a manager can string a sentence together.Well she is certainly bang on and an engaging speaker. Articulate is the word white people often use when they're surprised a black person can string a sentence together, which I'm sure isn't what you meant!
