Merry Xmas!
Depressing and although they are fringe, don't think people back home should be complacent about them.
The Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Simon Harris has asked Ireland's justice minister to bring legislation to cabinet to enable asylum seekers to be sent back to the UK. Helen McEntee has revealed that 80% of recent arrivals to the Republic came from the UK across the Irish border. Tánaiste (deputy prime minister) Micheál Martin said the UK's Rwanda policy was already impacting Ireland.
They keep removing tents..and sending the assylum seekers to a place outside Dublin. But once the tents are removed another lot of assylum seekers set up tents. They are all men. No women or children along the canals.Fash march becoming more regular
Anti-immigration protesters in Dublin are met by counter-demonstration
Protesters draped in Irish flags marched down O’Connell Street amid heavy Garda presencewww.irishtimes.com
Probably doesn't help with the tents by the canal plastered all over the media.

Recently the government placed 300 men into two buildings near where I live. 180 in a building that connects to the playground of a girls primary school. 120 into a building that was a boarding block in a secondary school...the school still operates.. I dont believe that this was a great plan... and plenty parents are not comfortable with the way this was done. There are lots of empty office blocks in Dublin. Why arent they using those?
Also...there are thousands of Irish people homeless who are waiting decades now for a home...
I've no issue with people seeking asylum..everyone deserves to live in safety and peace. In case you label me as fascist... but this government has made a complete mess of everything... from homelessness to asylum seekers to the extreme waiting times in hospitals...and the mess that is the health service cannot cope with the situation at all. Local hospital has been described by the drs & nurses working in A& E as like being jn a war zone. You are guaranteed a 36 hour wait in a&e before you are reviewed by a dr. And many end up a week in A&E. One man was found dead in A&E recently. Rigor mortis had set in. Another girl died after an agonising waitbof over 24 hpurs before any dr saw her. She died of sepsis. I was in that a&e. Corridors lined with sick people on trolleys. It was very unsafe. I waited 9 hours and decided to go home. Only to be told by the nurse on the desk that she would have to call the guards if I left. I had not been seen by a dr. Its absolutely crazy. The government shut down the A&Es in three hospitals in 2 other counties and so all cases from 3 counties now go to one hospital...a hospital thatcwas designed only to cover one county. Old people are preferring to die in their homes than attend that hospital because they are afraid to be in a&e for days on end on a trolley unable to go to a toilet or have any help. There is zero assistance. Zero care. Maybe 4 nurses and 2 drs if lucky. The staff are under extreme pressure and the hospital management is absolutely shiten It is utter madness.
We are a country pretending that we can do what EU asks when in reality we are a sinking ship... and with adult children unable to afford rents...and staying in their parents homes ...its only going to get worse.
There is one hell of a shitstorm about to explode here...and the government deserves every bit of it.
krtek a houby you're probably not as clued in to the reality of what is really going on.. but when ordinary Irish people feel they've been ignored by their own government in Ireland of all places..where historically we were governed by a country that also ignored the people...and now we see what is an extraordinary influx from the UK into a system that cannot support its own let alone 10s of thousands of asylum seekers....who do need to be cared for...and are immediately given legal aid (rightly) in order to process their rights to homes..and meds.and the people who are born here have been left to either live indefinitely with their parents or leave the country...it is that bad...and the elderly are beng treated appallingly..these are the exact people who built the country ... you surely can see why some are a bit pissed off???. Its not the asylum seekers they're pissed off at. Its the shitshow that is this country's government and the way the eu has ignored the problems here. The way we have been told to put up with everything.
So marches may well be infiltrated by nutjob far right people. But the ordinary people are entitled to protest the shitshow that is our government.

There's being pissed off with the shit that successive governments have failed to do for ALL homeless and then there's fash attacking newcomers and burning down accomodation whilst pretending to care about said homeless.
With respect, have been following the rise of fash in Ireland for decades, even before social media. Am talking pre Aine Ni Chonaill days, back to when record stores were targeted by wrong uns slipping racist material into black artists' LPs... and knowing people who migrated to Ireland in the 60s who faced discrimination back then.
There's fash online calling for murder, mayhem and Molotov cocktails.
Yes, they're (currently) still fringe but we mustn't be complacent. A friend of mine was hospitalised a few years back for having the audacity to be black, so am invested very much in this whole nightmare.
Hope you're right but then I wouldn't have expected some of the fash inspired activity in recent times.I dont think fascism will get a hold here.

I'm not really on soc media. It tends to be full of lunacyHope not. But then you hadn't heard of Justin Barrett or noticed anything untoward on social media.
That's not your fault, btw, but a lot of people seem to be unaware of the threat bubbling away just out of sight.
Surely you have heard people saying "Ireland is full" and "look after our own", at the very least? Because that conversation is certainly doing the rounds.
Well, not going to disagree with you there. I don't recommend it.I'm not really on soc media. It tends to be full of lunacy
Ok.. well I dont want to feed that soc media by getting involved or even reading it. I suspegt its mot a major movement.Well, not going to disagree with you there. I don't recommend it.
That said, it is a pointer to what's being said about newcomers (and also LGBT folk, etc) and it's seriously unpleasant.
Have been observing it over the last few years and it's increasing alarmingly. Of course, FB and the like amplify such rot, and some of it comes from external players, but it's still concerning.
No offence, but you have read the thread, right?Ok.. well I dont want to feed that soc media by getting involved or even reading it. I suspegt its mot a major movement.
Yes. I was one of the first to post on it ik 2019.No offence, but you have read the thread, right?
I imagine that a lot of the people involved in the anti migrant protests are themselves living precariously and as good as homeless, whether that be living in a hostel, couch surfing, log cabin without planning permission, etc. They don't strike me as Mr Burns and Lord Farqhuar.there's fash attacking newcomers and burning down accomodation whilst pretending to care about said homeless.

In that case, you missed one of the very first posts - which mentioned Justin Barrett.Yes. I was one of the first to post on it ik 2019.
then the country is supposed to turn around and give each asylum seeker...nearly €300 a week...along with practically free accommodation and food and free health care..free education...free clothing....free everything.
Is this the fault of the immigrants/asylum seekers or the state?Whereas an Irish homeless family could expect to be left on a list waiting years for a home and have no chance of work with no permanent address. An ordinary Irish worker aged 25 is unable to pay rent in Dublin or get a mortgage.
I don't know what you mean?Try punching up not down?
Oh its 100% the governmentis this true? Aladdin from your rant above, if so where did you get this info?

Do you have a link please?Well it was €220 and accommodation food legal fees etc. I think it went up for a short while to 285.. and if they are here a while and get onto the state courses...they get spme more...for transport costs.
The government recently announced they were reducing the amount of money for all new assylum seekers last month. They dropped it to about €35 a week instead. Not sure this has actually happened though.
But up to last month it was pretty good money.
Do you have a link please?
