Rwanda plan: Irish government wants to send asylum seekers back to UK

The Taoiseach (Irish prime minister) Simon Harris has asked Ireland's justice minister to bring legislation to cabinet to enable asylum seekers to be sent back to the UK. Helen McEntee has revealed that 80% of recent arrivals to the Republic came from the UK across the Irish border. Tánaiste (deputy prime minister) Micheál Martin said the UK's Rwanda policy was already impacting Ireland.

They should offer Irish passports to those the UK government sends to Rwanda, which would then by default give them access to live/work in the UK legally and completely undermine the deportation policy, and thus remove the incentive for people to come to Ireland to avoid it. Plus it would proper boil the piss of the gammons in the UK.

Fash march becoming more regular

Probably doesn't help with the tents by the canal plastered all over the media.
They keep removing tents..and sending the assylum seekers to a place outside Dublin. But once the tents are removed another lot of assylum seekers set up tents. They are all men. No women or children along the canals.

Recently the government placed 300 men into two buildings near where I live. 180 in a building that connects to the playground of a girls primary school. 120 into a building that was a boarding block in a secondary school...the school still operates.. I dont believe that this was a great plan... and plenty parents are not comfortable with the way this was done. There are lots of empty office blocks in Dublin. Why arent they using those?

Also...there are thousands of Irish people homeless who are waiting decades now for a home...

I've no issue with people seeking asylum..everyone deserves to live in safety and peace. In case you label me as fascist... but this government has made a complete mess of everything... from homelessness to asylum seekers to the extreme waiting times in hospitals...and the mess that is the health service cannot cope with the situation at all. Local hospital has been described by the drs & nurses working in A& E as like being jn a war zone. You are guaranteed a 36 hour wait in a&e before you are reviewed by a dr. And many end up a week in A&E. One man was found dead in A&E recently. Rigor mortis had set in. Another girl died after an agonising waitbof over 24 hpurs before any dr saw her. She died of sepsis. I was in that a&e. Corridors lined with sick people on trolleys. It was very unsafe. I waited 9 hours and decided to go home. Only to be told by the nurse on the desk that she would have to call the guards if I left. I had not been seen by a dr. Its absolutely crazy. The government shut down the A&Es in three hospitals in 2 other counties and so all cases from 3 counties now go to one hospital...a hospital thatcwas designed only to cover one county. Old people are preferring to die in their homes than attend that hospital because they are afraid to be in a&e for days on end on a trolley unable to go to a toilet or have any help. There is zero assistance. Zero care. Maybe 4 nurses and 2 drs if lucky. The staff are under extreme pressure and the hospital management is absolutely shiten It is utter madness.
We are a country pretending that we can do what EU asks when in reality we are a sinking ship... and with adult children unable to afford rents...and staying in their parents homes ...its only going to get worse.

There is one hell of a shitstorm about to explode here...and the government deserves every bit of it.

krtek a houby you're probably not as clued in to the reality of what is really going on.. but when ordinary Irish people feel they've been ignored by their own government in Ireland of all places..where historically we were governed by a country that also ignored the people...and now we see what is an extraordinary influx from the UK into a system that cannot support its own let alone 10s of thousands of asylum seekers....who do need to be cared for...and are immediately given legal aid (rightly) in order to process their rights to homes..and meds.and the people who are born here have been left to either live indefinitely with their parents or leave the country...it is that bad...and the elderly are beng treated appallingly..these are the exact people who built the country ... you surely can see why some are a bit pissed off???. Its not the asylum seekers they're pissed off at. Its the shitshow that is this country's government and the way the eu has ignored the problems here. The way we have been told to put up with everything.

So marches may well be infiltrated by nutjob far right people. But the ordinary people are entitled to protest the shitshow that is our government.

And I expect stuff like this to grow in England (specifically) too. Even if Labour win the next GE, maybe even especially if they do.

There's being pissed off with the shit that successive governments have failed to do for ALL homeless and then there's fash attacking newcomers and burning down accomodation whilst pretending to care about said homeless.

With respect, have been following the rise of fash in Ireland for decades, even before social media. Am talking pre Aine Ni Chonaill days, back to when record stores were targeted by wrong uns slipping racist material into black artists' LPs... and knowing people who migrated to Ireland in the 60s who faced discrimination back then.

There's fash online calling for murder, mayhem and Molotov cocktails.

Yes, they're (currently) still fringe but we mustn't be complacent. A friend of mine was hospitalised a few years back for having the audacity to be black, so am invested very much in this whole nightmare.

I dont think fascism will get a hold here.

Hope not. But then you hadn't heard of Justin Barrett or noticed anything untoward on social media.

That's not your fault, btw, but a lot of people seem to be unaware of the threat bubbling away just out of sight.

Surely you have heard people saying "Ireland is full" and "look after our own", at the very least? Because that conversation is certainly doing the rounds.

I'm not really on soc media. It tends to be full of lunacy

Well, not going to disagree with you there. I don't recommend it.

That said, it is a pointer to what's being said about newcomers (and also LGBT folk, etc) and it's seriously unpleasant.

Have been observing it over the last few years and it's increasing alarmingly. Of course, FB and the like amplify such rot, and some of it comes from external players, but it's still concerning.

Ok.. well I dont want to feed that soc media by getting involved or even reading it. I suspegt its mot a major movement.

I imagine that a lot of the people involved in the anti migrant protests are themselves living precariously and as good as homeless, whether that be living in a hostel, couch surfing, log cabin without planning permission, etc. They don't strike me as Mr Burns and Lord Farqhuar.

You rightly point the blame to where it really lies: perennially shit, craven clueless governence. Same as here (UK). And as much as housing and services are overburdened (to say the least from your descriptions) I do wonder why tax paying, low wage delivery drivers have been attacked in Dublin.

And I won't presume to pontificate after having read a few Guardian articles, and I don't mean to beat any drum, but I think America has got us by the balls so to speak and doesn't care any more. And I think Brexit was a big part of that feeding frenzy, aided by ideological loons. It's an almost hyper-capitalist 'burn it all down if I make a buck' attitude, because that's how 'business is done'. I may be looking at the wrong target but I can't shake that feeling looking at much of the UK, and it sounds even harder in Ireland...

Just a thought. I don't pretend to have worked anything out.

Yes. I was one of the first to post on it ik 2019.
In that case, you missed one of the very first posts - which mentioned Justin Barrett.

It may be fringe at the moment but this isn't something new. As mentioned previously.

Just because you haven't noticed it, doesn't mean it's not happening. Obviously.

Here's an interesting article from last year (10 mins read approx) on how fascism ties up with capitalism and divides the working class and how it can be combatted.

This is the context in which far-right ideas and forces are on the rise and gaining an echo, including among sections of the working class. Those in desperate straits can be affected and misdirected by ideas that can seem to help them make sense of the injustice they experience, including even by reactionary or racist explanations to the problems they face.

Undoubtedly, the emergence of different social media platforms has given reaction and the far right tools, which they have expertly used, to make a real impact not only online. As Dr Ryan T. Williams has noted: “Far-right groups are some of the most successful adopters to this form of digital communication, targeting vulnerable people online, often young white men. Their strategies have become ever more sophisticated, radicalising people using vlogs, live streaming, and web forums.”

We certainly have taken in over 100000 people from the war zone that is Ukraine. They're in hotels, nursing homes, hostels, people's own homes, and in the past 2 years thousands and thousands of people have been coming into Ireland from international areas such as Iraq, Syria, African countries and more.
There are 1000s of Irish homeless for over 10 years. 3500 homeless Irish children are living in hostels or hotel rooms with their entire family.

There are fewer GPs now than ever. Hospitals are unable to cope with numbers. Elderly patients who USED to be able to leave hospital and go to step down nursing home accommodation while recovering..are now unable to leave hospitals...because NURSING homes have been taken over for asylum seeker accommodation.
So these elderly people ALL of whom worked their entire lives and paid taxes for whatever services we have..are stuck in hospital beds. This means they dont leave. This is creating another crisis for sick people who need a hospital bed. Knock on effect is A and Es are overcrowded with the latest figures of over 36 hours waiting to be admitted to a hospital bed. People are dying because of this.
Up to a few weeks ago all asylum seekers in Ireland were getting more money per week than Irish people on the disability allowance. We have paid out massively... our community services are suffering. We have young Irish people leaving to try to have a better life rather than living at home until they are in their 30s. I mean...with respect krtek a houby
the situation is really bad. Irish tax payers and Irisb families have paid thousands to educate their children into necessary careers. We need Irish nurses and doctors to stay here. Their education has been paid for and subsidised massively by the state...by us..tax payers. We cannot afford to be educating people who then leave because they cannot afford to pay the rents or get a morgage here. It's crazy that this is happening and then the country is supposed to turn around and give each asylum seeker...nearly €300 a week...along with practically free accommodation and food and free health care..free education...free clothing....free everything. Many Ukrainians were getting all that and also working..getting paid under the table...
Whereas an Irish homeless family could expect to be left on a list waiting years for a home and have no chance of work with no permanent address. An ordinary Irish worker aged 25 is unable to pay rent in Dublin or get a mortgage.

As for the damage done to tents along the canal in Dublin..
People have been attacked on those canals for decades... They're not safe to walk at night. Even as a child I knew that the Dublin Canals were tricky and dangerous to be on and we always steered clear...even in the daytime.

As for Barrett?? Nobody gives a toss about him. He's a big old loud mouth with zero clout... in a party with zero elected representatives. He's going nowhere.

You may be reading a few nutters online but honestly I suspect they're all out of the same half litre pot posting under multiple names. Barrett has zero real following. He's a one trick pony that nobody wants.

By the way there are some really serious criminals now in the country and we have our own home grown gangland criminals too. Saw that some Dublin gangland criminal has been joining those anti migrant protests..ramping things up. These guy's have no political allegiance whatsover. They're just murderous scumbags out for a fight and to maintain control of their illegal empires.

We haven't a hope of being able to manage the shitstorm that will happen. Unarmed gardaí expected to deal with gangs carrying AK 47s. We don't even have a fully equipped army. The Black Axe gangs are here in every city now.
And the IRA is disbanded and has handed in their weapons for years. So .. when the eastern european gangs that are here a while , and the Nigerian gangs that are around since 2017, start fighting with the big Irish gangland criminals....we will have some shitstorm. I dont believe for one second any of that will be caused by "Fascism". It will be from gangs wanting the malicious control of land, gangland turf, illegal wealth and illegal drugs. Ordinary people from all denominations will suffer as a result.

Is this the fault of the immigrants/asylum seekers or the state?

Try punching up not down?
I don't know what you mean?

The government is in for a right scalding but the election is not til next year and there are very few options or choices to vote for.

Seriously.. you think the ordinary people are punching down on the asylum seekers? I dont believe that.
A handful of highly publicised protests does not make an entire country fascist.

Well it was €220 and accommodation food legal fees medical card etc. and if they are here a while and get onto the state courses...they get spme more...for transport costs.

The government recently announced they were reducing the amount of money for all new assylum seekers last month. They dropped it to about €35 a week instead. Not sure this has actually happened though.
But up to last month it was pretty good money.

Do you have a link please?
e2a so "they" don't get given 300 euros a week then

Do you have a link please?

The government sites have all readjusted the amount to the lower figure...which only now is active.

But this site still has the info on it.

Add in the medical cards which are extremely difficult to get (if you are Irish ) and worth a lot... and free legal aid and also the fact there are paid training courses available also. It's great that people are safe. And some are even starting up businesses as they get special grants.
