How perfect is your car?

Wing mirrors are fine in automatic car washes. Gone through my local car wash loads of times with them folded out and never had a problem. They are designed to fold in on impact anyway. Definately retract or remove the ariel though.

Thanks, I did believe the other two people who already told me this :D All the same, next time I'm driving a £20k car that belongs to a company whose business model at least partly relies on fleecing the drivers of hire cars through a carwash and they tell me to tuck in the mirrors, I think I will.

I've always kept them clean and like a motor that looks tidy, but when driving 15 year old bangers you start shrug a little.

So now I've just blown almost 7k on something a bit nicer I'm a little prouder about it. I've just bought a duel action polisher.

It's been in the garage being fixed for longer then I've owned it now. :(

I bought my car from an extremely fastidious man who must have spritzed every bit of it with mister sheen the day I went to see it and probably every day. His shirt sleeves were rolled up but perfectly, in crisp even folds. Occasionally think of him when chucking pieces of tree and muddy boots all over the inside of it.

Was that Saul Goodman that you bought it off? Did you notice any baseball bats nearby?

She's called Lucille.

I came within a gnat's dick of buying an XJ8 yesterday. A friend's dad is looking to sell his '05 X350 3.6, which has hardly any miles on it and looks like it's been valeted every day since it was new. I've wanted a Jag since I was a kid and reckon I'm about the right age to own one now and that'll be pretty much my perfect car. He'll take 6 grand for it which I reckon is 2k less than what it's worth. Neither of us is in a hurry so we've agreed to talk again in the new year whilst I try to sell one of the Beamers. I have to say, it's absolutely gorgeous and I'm pretty set on this. The last of the proper Jaguars.

Lovely motors, can picture five burly bouncers riding around town in one.

It really is very special. Like a 5 star hotel lounge inside and the V8 just shoots you along in absolute silence. It's like flying. I was particularly impressed by the ride when you start chucking it around some bends. I'd expected it to wallow around like a boat but, whilst it's no Porsche, it's surprisingly agile.

What? 27 mpg in a hybrid? Jesus. I get more than 50 mpg from my petrol Honda Jazz.

If that’s what hybrid’s do they should be banned long before petrol motors.

Was looking at Volvo V90’s hybrids, the claim is around 100mpg, reality is unless you drive incredibly slowly you’ll be luck to see 25. Still nice cars though.

at the moment my car is prefect.. bought it about a month ago

mostly because its fucking alarm does not go off randomly all friggin night

as it did for the first 3 weeks of ownership..

Car alarms should be illegal.

That's pretty poor. I can average around 29/30 in the 335 unless I have some extra fun, in which case I can get it down to about 12.

Oh, for sure. I wasn't holding it up as a paragon of efficiency, just that the big oil tanker gets better mileage than t'other. (We eked it up to about 37mpg on the long stretches in France, fully laden inside and 3 bikes, but it's absolute shit on shorter runs.)

My perfect car was my toyota auris tourer hybrid. 1.8 litre engine. I was easily doing
4 litres/ 100km. Full tank lasted me a month. Big boot for all my stuff....It was perfect.

Until it wasnt.

Most comfortable car I ever owned or drove...Effortless really. Automatic. So lovely to drive. I miss it.

But covid19 lockdowns fucked it up. And I could not rely on it anymore. Traded it in for a Toyota Yaris 1litre engine. It's actually really nice to be back driving a stick shift and I am liking this car quite a lot. Bit noisy. Not so fast as the 1.8 obvs. Requires more concentration on a motorway as its lighter and higher. Strong wind can be felt and I found a recent drive to Cork in rain and wind was a lot more "driving effort" than the previous car would have been. But my plan was to hold onto this til covid 19 is finally gone but I might keep it for 4 or 5 years.
