Hot off the press DnB thread

was thinking....there was a time in around turn of the millenium or so (probably earlier) where producers explicitly started making tunes that would sound effective on the shittiest no sub speakers - read more than one interview saying that - people werent going out as much compared to earlier 90s and the producers effectively followed them home and expected the worst from their radios and music equipment -sub bass on its own (not layered with a mid range sound) went out the window - i reckon bad companys success was partly because their tunes play well on poor speakers... this is still kind of true with a lot of screetchy jump up.

theres a strain of modern tunes like those posted above though thats the opposite - tunes that are completely lost on shit speakers and more so than any other music from the scene of the last 25 years -all the work is in fine detail that only comes across on good speakers/sets. I really like that level of specialism and also confidence not to chase the easy reaction. Shows a faith in people caring from both sides, producers and listeners....

Its great that people are buying proper headphones again, for example...
i think it's safe to say that my tastes diverge from ska invita 's somewhat.
unity! im sure theres thousands of tunes we both like...

It had a little peak in popularity here 2013/14...... I've been mixing it for a while, but I think a lot of people struggle with finding the flow of it.

The Suki Quasimodo boiler room mix has some  tunes in it.

i can't really get into it (as a genre I'd routinely buy to play out) tbf, some of the dream continuum/Om Unit/Rashad stuff is good but it doesn't at all sound very current to me. The exit/auxiliary/samurai sound is very current for me in comparison and i could see myself playing it out. Fracture drops quite a bit of the footwork sound in his sets, which i rather enjoy, but a straight set of it would sound a little bit too retro to me if you see what i mean.

I'm not saying i don't like footwork or footwork jungle, I do, neither do i need help getting into it, but everything i've heard doesn't really seem to be pushing boundaries.

ska invita this type of sound your thing or not?

Love the engineering on the basslines on these minimalistic productions, really what does it for me. Subtle but rewarding on a good rig.

very much so...i already posted it! great minds ;)
this has just been released into the wild
Mark System - Optix

 didn't see that. Still, deserves another mention
in fact i just spotted my link got taken down by Exit, so good to have a live one on the thread. :thumbz:

ive got a feeling the drop on the track comes in awkwardly - i bet its a ever so slightly tricky one to mix

Slick shoota and fishstix are both worth a look ;)

having a good flick through the juno chart - not found anything to write home about - dnb charts have always been a bit weird tbh

this is pretty alright though (but not in the chart)
uneasy tune

look forward to hearing this in its entirety
nice to hear a track with a melodic pad!
also usually when a track drops in with one of these minimal beats it never goes anywhere, never builds - nice to see that rule being broken for once to - really good development ..... well, it was standard in old tunes, but nice to see in a modern tune
