Holland and Russia

Well done Russia. Maria Sharapova did say they'd win she knows does Maria. Why didn't England (or Chelsea)get Guus the Great?

This, combined with last nights theft, does add a new perspective to Stevie Mac's reign. Maybe England were just a worse team than Russia?

Great performance from Russia. If Arshavin wasn't on the lowly Russian League, he'd be a serious contender for the Golden Ball. Netherlands played OK, but that's pretty much about it. Kudos to Michel for having the balls to admit he made a wrong call.

Also: third match, and three second-place teams progressing. Bye bye Spain? :D

every team i have wanted to win in the knockout stages so far, has won ... i didn't watch many group stage matches though ...

Arshavin is the nuts. What Wenger's doing flirting with Nasri when Arshavin is milling about with Zenit is baffling. He's like Hleb except more direct, scores goals and has better decision making.

fucking well done to russia though. this is the furthest they've ever got.

anyone fancy the chances of russia in the final?

They didn't have Robben for starters. Affellay is clearly too young, he looked like a rabbit in the headlights and RvP's sub was probably too early. All in all though they stopped playing as a team. Everyone was flooding the centre, no width on the wings and none of the excellent passing that we'd seen from the three previous games. Was it a mistake to send out a B team against Romania, interrupted their confidence and flow?

Very disappointed with Holland tonight. Just what on earth happened?

same thing that always happens to them - they bottled it at the sharp end after looking brilliant against some floppy opposition early on.

as Russia at any rate - the USSR were champions once and runners up three times.

Fair play to Russia. By far the better team on the night.

Van Basten will be distraught. Out thought by Hiddinck on the big stage.

Arshavin is a bit of a find, what a right foot. The name though, it's not good.

What? I have been out all day and Russia WON?

Against Holland?

I have had the idea that Russia are the secret favorites for this competition for a while now. They have won everything else, recently.

Innit??

I reckon they must have put something in the water ...

Holland aren't that good

they were amazing in the qualifiers, lost their nerve in the 1/4s

what a surprise

wait a minute,

turkey beat croatia
germany beat portugal
and russia beat holland?

it's wide open for italy or spain then isn't it? all the other favourites have gone...

Germany are loads better than Portugal
Croatia are rubbish as well
Russia was a surprise, but Holland are rubbish 9 times out of 10

Germany or Italy to win, as always

It was the first European Championship quarter-final that did not have to be decided by penalties after going into extra time and was just reward for another spellbinding performance from the young Russians and their destroyer-in-chief Arshavin.
