Historic defeat of Fianna Fail

Isn't Wallace bankrolling that Dylan Haskins Macauley Culkin fellow along with David McWiliams?

To be honest I know nothing about the fella but his website is a hoot: http://mickwallace.net. People slagging him off for the fact his 40 million euro in the red construction company might have done work at the US embassy :)

Wallace is OK, for a developer.

It's going to be FG/Labour for sure. The persistence of an FF rump, the political degeneration of Labour, and the fact that voting for SF is still a bridge too far for many people (any word on Gerry's chances in Louth, btw?) will probably prevent a true left/right realignment, at least for some years to come.

I'm just happy to see FF smashed, that's all (even if the French daily Liberation described them as 'centre-gauche', ffs)

Adams is vying with A N Other to top the poll in Louth, he's deffo gonna be a TD, the issue is whether he tops the poll or not.

As expected, comrades Bacik and B-B contesting 4th seat in Dun Laoghaire. Fight fight fight.

Dun Laoghaire: Final Tally - Eamon Gilmore 20%, Sean Barrett 19%, Mary Mitchell O'Connor 16%, Richard Boyd Barrett 10.8%, Ivana Bacik 10.46%, Mary Hanafin 9%, Barry Andrews 6%, Ciaran Cuffe 3.75%.

Joan Collins of ULA might do well in Dublin South Central.

My bets on RBB. When I did a survey on Bacik in Foxrock last year, I found maybe one or two people who had a good word to say about her.

Mary Lou is doing a lot better than expected, as well - looks like she'll finally make it to the Dail (stupid German keyboard won't let me do fadas).

Won't Bacik do ok on transfers though? RBB polled 8.9% first preferences in 2007 and still lost to Cuffe (7.7%) of the Greens.

Sargent struggling in Dublin North. Two Labour, Clare Daly and a blueshirt in there I reckon.

I'm quiet pleased that I got to slam the door in Conor Lehinan's face at 8:55 on Thursday evening.

precisely Gilmore sailed home, and all of his 2nd preferences will go straight to Bacik.

During a by election a couple of years ago, my mam wouldn't open the door to a gaggle of FFers. She hid in the kitchen and could see Bertie Ahern peeking in the living room window.

A number of friends on the northside stood on in shock as Bertie Ahern canvassed them on behalf of Brady these last few weeks.

I thought of saying something witty to Lehinan but the bastard looked so fucking smug, he's now looking at a 100k a year pension. Cunt.

A Clearly delighted Vincent Browne has confirmed Mick Wallace will get a seat.

Mick Wallace did this a few years ago

Mick Murphy of the SP outpolled Conor Lenihan. 2462 votes to 2341.

he got my number one. I'm losing my mind that the ULA are still being classed as part of the independent bloc when they got twice or three times the seats as the greens!

Greens facing total wipeout. If Sargent doesn't scrape in, they're finished. Dunno where else they have a chance. Good riddance too.

The plot thickens (like a sort of soup, a chowder, perhaps):

1522 Two men carrying altered Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael posters have been removed from Cork city Hall by Gardaí.

The men who say they represent a protest group called Tir Na cGasta entered the building carrying a posters depicting Enda Kenny as a woman and Micheál Martin as a priest.

The men entered the count centre for a few minutes before they were removed by gardaí and count officials.

Another example of how our democracy affirms the divinity of Man:

Gardai arrested a man who attempted to set a ballot box on fire as he voted in the village of Tang, on the Longford/Westmeath border on yesterday evening.

The man had collected his ballot paper from officials and appeared to mark his votes on it but in fact had poured petrol over the ballot paper.

He then set the ballot paper alight and attempted to put it in the ballot box but was stopped by gardaí and officials.

There was no damage to the ballot papers in the box or to any of the staff at the pooling booth.

The man has been charged with public order offences and is due to appear in court in Athlone today.

Poster on the Cedar Lounge blog says RBB is just barely maintaining his lead, and he might just pull it off yet.

According to RTE twitter Bacik has conceding. I called that putt too early back in January.

I knew something was up when I could find hardly anyone who liked her when I did that job in Foxrock about a year ago.

Now someone on Cedar Loung (a Millie) says IB hasn't conceded, just said it will be hard to close the gap.

Didn't know that, but a property magnate as a 'Left candidate'?

The Stalinists have always been looking for the progressive bourgeoisie. In Ireland, we have one progressive bourgeois!

I don't actually know much about his politics, but he's well known for plastering prominent building sites with enormous anti-war banners or anti-Lisbon Treaty banners. Also, he gave the Communist Party a temporary home for their bookshop while their premises was getting refurbished.
