Hating the police

i've been interviewed by the police as a witness and to be fair they were fine. the case - gbh - got to court and then one of the victims fucked it up because he was mental.
I was really pressurised into trying to say I'd lied about a set of master keys being stolen, that I'd lost them and was trying to cover it up, that I'd made a mistake. Over and over and over for an hour. I just kept saying no, I was telling the truth, and eventually they left. I had no-one with me, and I was left quite shaken.
I've since given several witness statements for other incidents and have been treatef with courtesy and respect, so I like to think that my experience was an aberration, someone being a bit too zealous, but as more and more incidents come out in the press I wonder if there is an accepted culture of mistreatment.

And yes, I know people tell lies to the police.

why did he hit you?

Thanks for your interest.

He thought I hadn't been maintaining the path properly (which we both share but which I'm responsible for maintaining) and water was building up in it from all the rain we've had lately.

But the real reason is because he's a fucking nutcase (he drinks heavily as well, which doesn't help). He pushed his way into my house to hit me, and before that he was throwing builder's debris (admittedly small bits) at me from outside. He broke my broom the week before that after taking it out of my shed.

The problem is it's my word against his and there's neither evidence nor witnesses, so unless he confesses there's not a lot I can do.

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lumpenproletariat) :

'In The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Napoleon (1852), Marx refers to the lumpenproletariat as the "refuse of all classes", including "swindlers, confidence tricksters, brothel-keepers, rag-and-bone merchants, beggars, and other flotsam of society". '

Not quite the 'definition' you provided, coley. Lumpenproletariat is a german word literally meaning 'rogue proletarian'.

There is also 'Lumpenbourgeoisie' (mainly used in Latin America, but has been used in Europe) describing 'a type of a middle class[1] and upper class[3] (merchants, lawyers, industrialists, etc.)[4]; one that has little collective self-awareness or economic base[1] and who supports the colonial masters.[1][3]'

Aye whey, you take your pick;)

Perhaps because a lot us here have been involved in direct action, anti-fascism, protests, etc. so our dealings with them hasn't exactly always been positive.
Well I have been on the wrong side of them more than once but after the miners strike I wouldnt take shyte off any of them, unless i was caiught red handed then its "its a fair cop officer"

I just wonder why so many people take the shyte that is reported on here, they are nowt to be frightened of.

Put simply, because it's not only yourself you have to worry about. It's your mates and/or your family too, especially when the worst most coppers get is a slap on the wrist, and the payback they'll extract from you and yours is a lot worse than that.

The best revenge is to live well, and if you can't manage that, then giving one of the cunts a beating when he's walking home pissed is a close second*.

*Not that I'd ever do something like that.

You were a squaddie. Ever complain when the OB steamed in for no reason when you were out on the town with "the lads"?

Or were you, like me, convinced that no complaint would go anywhere?
Usually a warning to "keep a lid on it lads" and if we did kick off we suffered the consequences like anyone else, though most of the time we were referred to our OCs for punishment, which was usually a lot worse than the local magistrates would have handed out.

Aye, especially when they find out you're a fenian. Amount of harrassment that still goes on is unbelievable.
Complain to McGuiness:D

My point is that in my experience, it was generally the Old Bill that started the trouble, and us that finished it, but you knew there was no point in complaining that some chippy tithead had kicked your oppo in the bollocks with his steelies, because the worst that would happen is that his skipper would tell him to not get caught next time he booted a squaddie in the 'nads.

be better informed about what he meant by the lumpenproletariat, helps in those discussions when you try and use the term.
I didnt use the term, I was described as such and looked it up, I hardly think someones attempt to insult me merits devoting time to researching marxist theory:)

Weapons fetishisation and homo-eroticism.

Are you sure you weren't a Para, coley?
Very sure and the desire to rid the world of one of its more evil characters is hardly a manifestation of "homo eroticism" though I am still fond of shooting.

Well, I didnt spend a lot of time 'on the razz' in England just a few weekends in Scunthorpe between back to back tours in NI, and lets face it, Scunthorpe!!

It was the "7.62 dildo" bit. Totally homo-erotic.

You should now re-name yourself "cooey". :p
